I received some information researched by you from another family member researching the Seevers family. My ancestor is John L. Seevers, 7-13-1847 to 2-22-24. He is my great-grandfather. His parents seem to be Samuel Seevers and Mary Lightfritz Seevers. The information sent on Samuel fits very well with John's dates and family information. According to my mother, Helen Lewis Reed, after joining the army during the Civil War, my grandfather homesteaded the Newaygo county area in northwest Michigan. His first wife died in childbirth and he left the child, George Seevers, with his mother and moved to Michigan to homestead. He met and married Mary Elizabeth Brill and they had eight children. My grandmother, Edna May Seevers was one of those children. She died at 29 of tuberculosis. Several family members, including my mother and my mother's brother also contracted the disease. Edna's brother Ernest, a WWI veteran, was mustard-gassed. He died at 40 of the results of TB and the damage to his lungs from the gas. My mother lived with her grandparents after her mother died, until her father remarried. They lived in what was a remote part of Michigan in the 1920's. Most people farmed or lumbered. My great-grandfather died in February of 1924 of septicemia from an infected cut. My great-grandmother died three weeks later of exhaustion from caring for him and the grief of her loss. It has been fascinating seeing the pictures and reading other Seevers' accounts of their branches of the family. My mother remembers two of her grandfather's brothers visiting them at their homesteaded farm. She was only four and does not recall their names. She believes her grandfather lost touch with most of his family. No one knew, for instance, that his mother lived until 1909. I don't pursue this geneaology research on any regular basis as it can be very time consuming. But I really enjoy reading about others efforts and results. I have pretty complete results for the Seevers descendents of John if anyone is interested. My mother has written her own life story-must be s Seevers' gene-and much of it is the time she lived with her Seevers grandparents. Thank you for making my search easier. Re; the Native American rumors. One of my Seevers relatives is sure that there is Native American connections. My mother does not think so. Nothing in the family tree connections I've found indicate that. Does anyone know the origin of the name? Is it German? Based on the spellings I have guessed it was.
