My father, John H. Delmage, was in the 551st PIB and at the Battle of the Bulge. He never talked much about it until we found out that the 551st received the Presidential Unit Citation. Since then, we found out his picture and name was mentioned in several books about the 551st and he has received many medals, which he didn't know he had coming. So last year we had a big awards ceremony for him and a few 551st survivors came to see him after nearly 60 years. His award ceremony got a lot of local press and as a result, he has received personally hand signed letters from 4 presidents, 1 vice president, 2 governors, and several senators and congressmen. His story was published in the Congressional record and he received a Commendation from the Governor of California. And finally, an American flag was flown over the Capitol in his honor and Senator Boxer sent him that flag.

All the veterans of WWII, or any war for that matter, should always receive our undying respect.

Mitch Delmage
