"GO" is an acronym for "General Order". If he were to recieve a decoration such as a CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) or Purple heart he would be listed in the Index for the Regiment along with the specific order under which he would recieve it.

For higher decorations such as a Bronze or Silver Star, Distinguished Service Cross, etc he would be listed in the Divisions index of General Orders.

I happen to have a copy of the "index" for the 505th and found that John E. Edwards is listed as having recieved a purple heart under GO No. 10 (1944) and a CIB under GO No. 12 (1944).

I do NOT have a copy of the index of GO's for the 82nd but I beleive the 82nd division museum does. I still recomend you contact them if you are really interested as it is on post at Brag.

TOO stands for "Table Of Organization" If a "James Atchley" is listed in the index of General Orders for the 82nd it would list his unit within the 82nd and provide you with more clues as to where to find information.

Sam Kimpton.
