If the tag has the address for the next of kin, it means he enteredthe service before 1944. In 1944 the tag no longer had the address. Also, after the serial number there should be a T(number) [Example T43 = 1943] This tells you the year he got his medical shots in basic training. Maybe that will narrow down you search some.
