From a guys point of view who was in that re-enactment at Beltring, I can tell you this, we weren't re-enacting the end of Saving Private Ryan, that was a "familiar name" the name that the organisers gave the section to ensure the public would come and have a look. It was in fact a skirmish between 2nd Armoured, 41st Armoured Infantry, Units of the 82nd and 101st and the Engineers with the 2nd Battle group, Armoured elements and german grenadeir units etc.

Unfortunately for us "re-enactors/living history enthusiasts" organisers have something to sell and they will use termonlogy familiar to the public, although I will say most of the people who go to the Hop Farm for this four day event are by no means ignorant of the vehicles, soldiers or history of the period that we represent.

Jumping off my soap box for a moment, looks like its going to be a good event for 2nd armoured enthusiasts again this year. Were expecting a big turnout from our vehicle owners this year it gonna B literealy "Hell on Wheels" for the Krauts!

If you want to know what went on there last year visit their web site at www.thehopfarm.co.uk and follw the lings to the war and peace show.
Later
