Subject: Invasion of Sicily / TV research

I am a British television producer who has just come back from Iraq where I was embedded with the 21st Combat Support Hospital making a documentary for PBS.

While I was in the Middle East there was a lot of discussion of 'friendly fire' incidents, and I was told a terrible story about the airborne assault of Sicily in July 1943, which the 505th PIR combat team were heavily involved with. My understanding is that the British Navy was responsible for shooting down many of the C47s carring the troops into the drop zones.

I am trying to find out more about these events for a possible television project. I am at a very early stage in my research (as you've probably gathered), and I would appreciate any help or advice that you could give me.

Thank you for your time and consideration
Dimitri Doganis
