The early 2.36" M6 HE rounds were painted yellow with black markings. This would be correct for the pointed style rockets, with open fins, through late 1942 or early 1943. After that, rockets of that style were painted were painted OD with yellow markings. The OD normally specified was Ammunition Lacquer, Shade #319, but like vehicles, personal equipment, and everything else painted OD, the color varied widely. The late war varients of the 2.36" rockets, like the round-nose M6A3 HE, were also painted OD with yellow markings. I have seen some literature which specified color banding but have never seen an original rocket or period photograph that would indicate they were actually marked that way. I'm away from my reference materials at the moment and cannot remember what height of lettering was required, but it was probably the same font and size as seen on the common M7A1 practice rounds. If you need more detailed information, please drop me an email.
