Hi Brian,
There are 3 standard Aerial Delivery Containers, A-4, A-5, and A-6 they are constructed in such a way that they can be safely dropped either from racks beneath the planes or from the exit door of a plane . The A-4 Container is used when there's need for heavy padding to protect fragile equipment such as radios and medical supplies, but it also is often used for packing, padding and securing ends of bundles i.e. the A-5 Container might be used for packing extra ammo such as 2.36-in M9A1 Rocket Launcher - the main A-5 Container would then be packed with 2 x Rocket Launchers (unassembled), 6 x AT M6A1 Rockets in Fiber Containers protected by one M2 Ammo Bag, another 6 x M6A1 Rockets in similar Bag - both ends (of A-5 Container)would then be wrapped up and padded by means of 2 x A-4 Containers . Further info; one A-4 Container could include Radio Equipment such as the SCR-284 Voice Radio, Components, Spares and Generator . I can further add that A-5 Delivery Containers usually carry general equipt for the squad as well as weapons which are not jumped by personnel and/or extra ammo . A-6 Containers are mainly used for rations, water bags, radio parts, or similar supplies ... Door loads or bundles are just pushed out the door with static lines of subject cargo parachutes fastened to the anchorline in the plane - while equipment bundles attached in the parachute pack racks underneath the plane are released electrically or mechanically from w/i the plane ... I hope the above helps - Best Rgds, Alain
