Someday he would like to sit one of these arrogant beings down and tell them about being King. He thought he would start at the beginning: arriving in Cascade Mountains as the only evil horse, the evil Queen being inactive and near-gone, and then fighting a dragon to prove his worth. Then spending his time in rebuilding this place... then going on from there. Perhaps he would be able to adequately explain that it wasn't actually the running of the "kingdom" that was the hard part, it was dealing with the disdain of the subjects. Fortunately they had him on the seat, the idiot who was placid enough to do nothing but watch unless called, to take the hits and the words and the plotting... the plotting that always came out to nothing. Someday he would like to ask that sitter and listener and ask, "So, what would you do if you were I?" Somehow he doubted that that creature would never understand; narcissism was the natural attribute of many whom dwelled in Cascade Mountains, whether that creature be evil, light, or something other than horse.
Someday...
His ebony muzzle turned to touch lightly down upon the silkiness of his mate's neck. "Do you think she wants to live here?" he asked in a lightly questioning tone, a slight smile forcibly taking form within the content of his voice. Suddenly a sigh released forced through the tautness of his nares, and they flared obligingly whilst taking in the scent left by the mare. How ironic that she complained when it wasn't he that had begun the trend of arrogance and superiority; it was them. How easily they could knock him out of his position if they dared! How easily a word and a glance cow them. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Such a quote was never noticed in the realm of reality, although it imparted the best advice of all. "With age comes wisdom." ...Not with all, and maybe not with him, but he was aging. And soon the throne would be bequeathed upon another. How in the heavens would his weak and pliable evils manage then?
Older than he once was, nevertheless there were still muscles beneath the pelt that had served him so long and faithfully, and mighty good muscles they were too. Now they rippled as he shuddered lightly against a slight breeze; as if to deflect it from his hide and carry it on its way. A hoof lifted slightly upon edge, it was replaced in its last print with a mere thought. The noble visage was now turned upon Frozen Dreams with an air of contemplation. Fortunately for the other, the incessant scratching had passed by the black steed's notice- nothing but assiduous consideration rested in the King's gaze.
"Frozen Dreams, your Academy- how does it fare?"
