Something thrust the mare headlong into a sort of conversational stalemate. Her secret surprise at those words, spoken completely nonchalantly, preceded an ostensibly disloyal influx of guilt to her veins, as if it bore some inscrutable semblance to adrenaline. Or whatever that stuff was called. She shrugged it off easily. She hated the feeling, the unecessary sweating, and the thought process that accompanied the additional bitterness of superfluous worries. But already her hasty, un-motherly dismissal was leaving a foreign, sour, distinctly uncomfortable taste in her mouth that triggered another ensuing scolding from Mr. Guilt. Dammit, where was her lawyer when she needed him? Wasn't this kind of crap considered an invasion of privacy in certain parts of Mexico? /that's why the lady is a tramp.
