Subject: topic: would/could Buffy have fallen for William?

we know she loves the bad boys, and we know she loves the good guys, but, with one somewhat out-of-character exception (Owen), she DOES tend to go for dumb guys. (and, frankly, I'm not even sure that Owen wasn't dumb too. he just covered it up with the most mainstream, middle-of-the-road poetry he could find. nothing artsy or cutting edge for him, he likes his literature Oprah-approved. that's MUCH less threatening to the girls.)

Buffy falling for Angel made sense, Buffy falling for Spike made sense, Buffy falling for Pike made sense, Buffy falling for Riley made sense. heck, I'm not even sure why she spurned Xander!

but... if William (unturned bad poet) had been at Sunnydale High, would the Bufster have even noticed him?

I was making fun of how Spike reinvented himself (poser) on a tower topic thread, and it occurred to me that, if he hadn't, he wouldn't have stood a chance. if he'd stayed William (in any century) he would have died alone, friendless and loveless. Buffy, Cicely, Drusilla would all have spurned him.

discuss.

If William had been at Sunnydale High, he'd probably have been in the same league as Jonathan... relegated to being completely unnoticed.

I don't think it's fair to say "he would have died alone, friendless and loveless". Just because the likes of Buffy, Cecily and Dru wouldn't have been interested doesn't mean others wouldn't be.

The only reason Buffy went for Owen was because he was tall and goodlooking - not to mention he was solitary, mysterious and could brood for 40 minutes straight. Hmmm, sounds like somebody else, doesn't it? And I wouldn't say that Buffy's guys have been dumb - they were plenty smart, just not towering intellectuals, but then Buffy isn't one either.

From what we've seen, Buffy's a woman of action and street smarts but not a lot of patience for the long drawn-out thinky stuff - it's not unusual that she'd be attracted to the same thing. On the other hand, she really loved her poetry class - so who knows? Maybe when she settles down, she'll want a guy like William the Poet.

As for William, I think he'd have done all right after a while. And if you think about it, Cecily is really the only one who spurned him - he was with Dru for a hundred years and ended up being in Buffy's heart.

It's a side effect of the turning. Men develop rippling muscles and women grow bigger breasts.

Have you even seen a flat-chested vamp girl? No!

It's a demonic... essence... soul thing. Or something. :-)

Must be a Slayer thing, cuz with Vamp Willow and Vamp Xander your theory fits. :-)

I think jokes have also been made about how due to stunt double-age, Buffy seems to get bigger boobs when she fights or something. Someone called them "the strap on battle boobs" lol

Joss remarked that Buffy had strapped on her "fightin' boobs" in one of the fight scenes. :-)

Even though she had a thing for poetry I'd say no. No because William we saw had refused his hero's journey, turning up his nose at the ugliness of life. It took a certain demon to infuse William with enough whatever to turn the simpering gentle victorian poet into a balls to the wall Byronesque figure that would turn Ms. Summers head. In turn Buffy became the muse for the poet to understand he lived where it was ugly and could do something about it.

Penning a poem with one hand, buckling his swash with another...I'll be in my bunk...

Oops, I don't know if I've already sent this.....pretend I'm sexually flustered. (Or, err don't pretend)

Would william have given buffy the time of day, is she the type of woman he would have brought home to mother?
