Subject: What did you think of the finale?

Honest opinions but NO bashing. I would like to know what you thought of the finale.

What did you like about it? What didn’t you like about it?

No bitterness, recriminations, shipper wars or anything like that please. Just a nice clean assessment of the positive/negative aspects of the episode. Honesty and criticism are acceptable. But please express your opinions constructively.

Horty :)

[> i think i wish *i* had angel breath... -- gretch, 22:15:15 05/20/03 Tue (64.12.96.169)

i was extremely disappointed. extremely.

one saving...and yet very short...grace...was the scooby *gretch starts crying* scene in the hallway...*that* is what i'm gonna miss...

joss did try to throw us some bones...anya's bunnies...party in xander's eye socket..."eat m..." buffy line...andrew's swimmer's ear...dawn's tongue ring epiphany...dungeons and dragons...

joss did let me down in the plot department...and the time department...i think if it were two hours...at least anya could have gotten a proper death some dangling stuff could have been covered...some proper relatioship (not romantic) could have been rounded out...

i'm gonna miss these characters immensely...i wish joss would have given them their due...regardless, they'll always be with me in a way...

[> Better than expected . . . (spoiler, as if a warning was needed) -- MTsFan *wave ot Horty*, 22:16:15 05/20/03 Tue (67.163.107.100)

The spoiled ol' me got what I wanted. To be over the bad parts and enjoy how it was played.

Unexpectedly good parts:
SMG's reading of 'splainy'. She pulled that off despite the script.

All the action was great. From treating Caleb with the respect he deserved to the final battle, it all went well. The scoobies did their part, too, but it was all too brief. I could have used about 5 times the Dawn screentime. She had a great move letting in the light and ended swinging a sword to save Xander.

Cookie dough was OK, also because of SMG's acting. Angel didn't quite work, but that is what spoilage is good for. I was not disappointed.

They used the final scene to set up spinoffs as expected. It can go several ways equally well.

Spike's death looked really final - burning up and all. That's going to take real creativity to get him on AtS.

Anya's death was valiant too. Sad enough, but then spoilers to the rescue. I will have to get all new ships for the DSN, though.

[> It was superb! -- toothy, 22:23:42 05/20/03 Tue (209.240.198.62)

Every moment, every line.

Joss was right to make the final of all finals one hour. No pomp and circumstance. Just pure Buffy classic story telling.

I couldn't be happier with the entire show.

It's magnificance was in it's lack of ostentatiousness.

[> 20 things I loved about Chosen -- Quills, 00:10:02 05/21/03 Wed (64.254.192.243)

I was unspoiled and quite pleased. I was really expecting a bunch of Scooby deaths, and even though it may have been a bit unrealistic for nearly everyone to survive (except Anya and Amanda), I was happy they did. I really even thought Buffy might day for a second there.

Yes, there were a few things that I might liked to have seen that didn't happen, or whatever, but I'm going to focus on the good here, and I think it was certainly mostly good, and I'm just feeling so darn grateful for the show's existence in the first place.

So, to celebrate the finale; among the things I loved:
1). -- Willow's "nifty" comment after turning all of the potentials into slayers.

2). --The Dungeons & Dragons game the night before the big showdown.

3). -- Dawn's belated understanding of Willow's tongue ring comment

4). -- Anya's comment to Xander about how she figured he would be the one who was scared & that she would make sarcastic remarks

5). -- Xander's "party in my eye socket" happiness upon hearing of Caleb's death

6). -- Buffy's realization, in terms of relationships, that she wasn't ready for one with anyone

7). -- Spike's reaction to realizing that the amulet is working & something pretty intense is about to happen to him: "Bollucks"

8). -- Spike's beautiful humility and acceptance . . . he truly proves himself to be a champion

9). -- Spike's drawing of Angel on his punching bag

10). -- Spike (hey, are we noticing a theme here?) being honest w/Buffy about his feelings rather than having some big miscommunication, pouting, will her turn evil w/jealousy scernario. Three episodes in a row where these two had open, honest communication! Bravo!

11). -- Buffy getting up after the First taunts her about her mortal wound

12). -- The scene in the hallway where everyone says goodbye (by not saying goodbye)

13). -- Xander asking Andrew about how Anya died and then, through his grief, his pride: "That's my girl."

14). -- At the very end . . . Buffy's smile.

15). The ending . . . the fact that it really changed the dynamic, leaving it open for spinoffs (Spike, Dawn, Giles, Andrew, Willow — anyone?)

16). That, according to Giles, there is another Hellmouth in Ohio

17). Willow's quip to Kennedy about Buffy not really being that bright

18). Giles' remark about being a musical dwarf during the D & D game

19). Andrew's "Oh you silly British man"

20). The fight w/the ubervamps . . . pretty intense & cool
