Subject: Are We There Yet!

You know that cute little parody of The Road Trip with the Kids in the Back Seat?

Two miles down the road:
"Are we there yet?"
Two minutes later:
"Are we there yet?"
Five minutes later:
"Are we there yet?

And so it goes until the trip is over. The poor parents are all frazzled at the end of the day just trying to keep the kids busy so that they will quit asking that one simple question, "Are we there yet?"

In reality, you could stop at just about anywhere along the side of the road and tell the kids, "Yeah, we're there," and there likely to be satisfied. They are kids. They have limited experiences to compare anything to. Often, any place new is intriguing. However, the parents (being mature adults) will require more for their own stimulation. This is because they KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is something better out there. In most cases, whenever it comes to vacations, they will do whatever it takes to experience something better, to search out the more intriguing, the more satisfying.

Christianity is much the same way except the resemblance isn't so cute. You have to grow and mature in your relationship with Christ. It is essential to our own spiritual well-being, as well as that of the Church. Today, there are few Christians who actually seek more spiritual depth. Few Christians are mature enough in their relationship with God to see that we fall so short of the mark as the body of Christ. Most Christians are like children at a roadside park whose parents are trying to drag them to Disney Land: the parents KNOW Disney Land is many times better but the children don't want to leave the roadside park because Disney Land isn't real to them; the little park is enough.

Today, a mature Christian can constantly hear the Organized Church saying "Are we there yet?" as we try to drag them along in search of something deeper, something better. The Church is so ready to settle for anything. In fact, much of the Church is like the spoiled child who defies her parent, stomps her feet, and refuses to budge further. The majority of the Church is at a complete standstill and swiftly becoming more stale and complacent by the day.

In the end, there will be a huge price to pay if the Church doesn't move onward. If we continue to be satisfied with the current situation, the Church will only continue to rot within. Her true values and principles will continue to decay as materialistic and humanistic ideologies replace the heart of her existance. And guess what? We do all this in the name of the Father. What blasphemy it is! And if you don't believe me, look around! Mansion-like buildings, huge stained glass windows, golden plated ornamentals, and the countless extras like gyms, work-out facilities, etc. have pushed ours into a HOT TUB RELIGION; but in the name of God, we will have these and leave the hungry children on the street.

You would think that as we mature in our relationships with Christ, we would KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is something better out there. You would think that we would do whatever it takes to experience it. But then again, perhaps the Hot Tub is in the way. I would try to haul it off but almost every Christian I want to help always seems to ask, just a few minutes into the trip, "Are we there yet?"
