I meant pretty much all the creatures in the battle scenes. Like you said, much of it was necessary, but I just...am not a big fan of CGI, and it just seemed to be used much more heavily in this flick than the last two. Again, there probably aren't many more ways they could portray these big epic battles with these big freaky creatures without CGI, and I accept that, but it was just so much more noticable in this flick (though not quite as bad as the Ents in TTT).

And yeah, the ghosts - imo - weren't exceedingly well done. And yes, they were in the book. They're role was pretty important, but I think the search for them and the alliance with them kind of dragged in both the book and the flick.

Which brings me to the dragging. A little bit is to be expected in such a wide, encompassing trilogy, and there are many characters and events that needed time devoted to them, so I know I'm being a little unreasonable, here. But I could have probably done without four out of five scenes with the Ents in TTT, for example. In RotK, there was a lot of stuff going on, but it seemed to take quite a while, or else it just wasn't very interesting. For instance, the acquisition of Aragorn's undead army was vital to the plot, but kind of boring to watch (with the exception of Legolas's shot into the head of the lead dead dude). So was the massing of all of the good guy troops before finally heading out to Minas Truth (though I forgot to mention that I loved the signal fires being lit, scene). Just stuff like that.

And...oh yes, Frodo's ecstatic cry at seeing Gandalf alive. That about broke my heart, man. *sniff*
