You make good points in the defense of Moulin Rouge and at least you don't attack Chicago merely because you liked it less. Pretty much all the good points you listed about Chicago are the reasons why I liked it so much. One thing a musical *has* to have imho is catchy songs and some of the ones from Chicago definitely stuck in my head (for example: 'All That Jazz', Razzle Dazzle' and that one you said stuck in your head with the lyrics, "Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes they both, oh yes they both, oh yes they both reached for the gun, the gun, the gun, the gun, oh yes they both reached for the gun, for the gun." Can't remember the name of that song 'cause it's been awhile since I saw the movie and I only saw it once so I have forgotten stuff that perhaps I'd have remembered had I seen it again). Anyways, apart from those, I also liked the cell block tango but as for "Mr. Cellophane" - it was good but I think I enjoyed that particular song more when seeing Chicago on stage. I dunno why, I just think it worked better than it did in the movie. Everyone did indeed do a fine job, even Richard Gere's and Rene Zellweger's singing voices weren't bad like I had feared they may have been.

All in all it was very enjoyable and that's why I prefer it to Moulin Rouge. Why I'm not a fan of Moulin Rouge? Well, for one thing I just really could not get into the story. It confuzzled me. I won't go into detail about what parts confuzzled me but all I do need to say is when I'm confused about the storyline of a movie I can't enjoy it. That doesn't mean it's bad, it just is not the type of story I can be interested in. Also, I have been told by someone it was like a "collage" and that's why the whole way through they had bits from all different famous songs. Well, when I saw it I didn't know it was *supposed* to be like that. I was just thinking, "they couldn't come up with any original songs?". The only original song in that movie I can remember is that one between Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor ('come what may' is it?) Anyways, since there was hardly any songs in their entirety none stuck in my head. I just watched the movie thinking (for example), "okay, now they're singing an elton john song...wtf?" (there *was* an elton john song in it right?) Anywho, it just basically confused me, didn't grab my interest, didn't have any songs that stuck in my head, didn't have any outstanding performances in my mind (though nicole and ewan did good jobs with the singing) and the only thing I found impressive about it was the colours/lighting effects etc. Interesting note: the singer Mya was in both movies. Hmmm, maybe she knows she can't lose if she stars in musicals?;)
