“You sure? I mean, you’re his first boyfriend or…partner in general and he’s maybe just a little taken back by the fact that you’ve only known eachother since the End of February”

“I guess”

“I mean, it’s only August and you’re living together…again”

The two of them look on at Andrew, both inwardly concerned over his state of mind

Dawn is sat curiously staring at the musical box, she can’t seem to stumble across anything that will help Tara, she can’t even work out whether it is Tara, after all, she’s been dead for three years.

Willow would know what to do, but it’s dangerous territory. She has to do this herself.

She knows that she’s putting people in danger by not destroying the box, but she doesn’t care, it’s not an option.

“Hey” Connor calls quietly as he enters the room of a recovering Thalia. She doesn’t reply but she smiles.

“How you feelin?”

“Like I’ve been asked that question a thousand times”

“Sorry” he looks down “You’re an idiot”

“Excuse me?”

“What did you think you were doing?”

“Oh god here comes the Dawson’s Creek part”

“Who? I don’t understand you! You’ve got it all. You’re family are still alive and call you all the time, you’ve got friends all round you and you do well at school, what’s the deal, why are you unhappy?”

“I just am”

“Why?”

“I don’t know”

“How can you not know?”

“I don’t know”

“See, you’re an idiot you don’t know anything” he jokes

She laughs lightly

“I just don’t get how you people work”

“Who people?”

“All people! Nobody ever tells the truth about anything, least of all their feelings and what they’re scared of”

“I know, it’s just how we work I guess”

“Well, work differently, just say what’s wrong”

“Connor, I appreciate the help, but, If you don’t mind I’m kinda still on the alone clock”

“Okay, just say the word and I’m gone”

“The Word” she says smiling, he smiles back at her

He stops at the door “Hey Thalia”

“What?”

“Just be open once in while…” he smiles “Someone will be in every 10 seconds to check your pulse” he smiles before closing the door.

Thalia remains in bed and looks around her room, she gives and empty smiles then sinks into her covers.

Over at the college, Ryan is plodding along the corridor buried behind a rather large pile of boxes

“Over there” directs Dawn
Ryan drops the boxes down and crouches, hands on knees, catching breath

“That the last of it?” he asks or more precisely begs

“That’s it”

“For someone who’s only living here temporarily you’ve got one hell of a lot of stuff”

“I know, I just figured that It would be easier than running back and forth”

“Right. Not that I object but why is it you’re living here?”

“Thalia”

“You two fallen out again?”

“No, I’m worried about her”

“So you’re leaving her?”

“No, I’m given her space to deal with her issues, trust me, we don’t do any favours for eachother when one of us isn’t in the right state of mind”

“Faith’s gonna be okay with her?”

“Maybe.” Dawn grits her teeth and gets very sarcastic “I’m sure Connor can take care of her”

“Jealous”

Dawn stops and turns to Ryan, wrapping her arms around his waist, she kisses him quickly.

“Course not! What’ve I got to be jealous of?” She asks Ryan, asking herself the same thing.

He smiles and leans to kiss her back but she pushes him away

“Must run, gotta go to the social services”

“Why?”

“They have Casey, she wants to see me, I can’t very well be her friend, get all demonish on her and then expect her to grow up alone and insane”

“What are you gonna be her Foster Mum or something?” he asks jokingly

“If the worst comes to the worst” she says in all sincerity “And, it’s Mom!”

She leaves, leaving Ryan standing somewhat bewildered.
Seconds later she returns with Casey holding her hand

“Okay, we have a situation”

“So, I see” Ryan says unsure of what’s going on “You’re a fast worker”

“What? Ryan she ran away, to here, here is where she ran to, away from, to here”

“What?”

“Oh my god! I look like a child abductor”

“But she ran to you, or here or there”

“Make sense Ryan!”

“Sorry, I’m a little confused, strangely”

Dawn sits Casey on the bed

“Casey, why are you here?”

She shrugs, pouting.

“Casey, you need to tell me!”

“I don’t like it there”

“Where?”

“The orphanage, they’re mean!”

“What do you mean they’re mean? Who’s mean?”

“The Children”

“The other orphans?”

Casey shakes her head

“The dead children”

Dawn looks confused before turning to Ryan who seems equally baffled by the comment.

END OF PART ONE

“Hey” calls Ryan as he enters the bar to see Garrison “Sorry, I’ve not seen you so much since I got back”

“It’s cool, sup?”

“Nada”

“Nada?”

“Nothing of the much”

“Where’s the ball and chain?”

“Probably being the chain on someone else’s balls” Garrison says looking into his half-empty glass.

“Trouble in disturbing vision implication paradise?”

“Something like”

“Anything I can do?”

“Get me another drink”

“Okay, I was going for…on the more solid front like talking to Andrew?”

“He doesn’t like you, he won’t listen”

“Oh, right and why is that?”

“He thinks you’re a jerk for disappearing then trying to come back like nothing went down”

“Ouch! Okay not going there then”

“Sorry. Where’s Dawn anyways?”

“Talking to Faith and Trauma about little orphan Annie”

“Bitter?”

“I have a run away fetus and a paranoid woman living in my dorm room”

Ryan grabs a bottle from behind the bar and sits opposite Garrison. He swigs the bottle and passes it over.

“Boston sucks”

Faith and Thalia are stood looking up at the orphanage

“Dude, if every child in here doesn’t end up in prison I’ll eat my foot!” Faith says in one breath as the two of them stare up at a dark, damn and crumbling building covered in Ivy and moss.
“It looks like Trunchem Hall”

“What?”

“Matilda”

“Who?”

“Faith, did you ever go near a TV or book in your life?”

The two step up to the door and knock on the heavy Iron handle.

“Why are we here?” asks Thalia, clear wanting to be elsewhere

“Thalia, did you ever listen in your life?”

They smile at eachother sarcastically and wait for the door to open.

“Come on, come on” Faith says getting rather impatient

“Look, clearly nobody’s in, so let’s go”

“Casey left here this morning, where could two hundred kids and staff go?”

“Field trip?”

Faith kicks the door open

“Faith! It’ll be like a whole summer fayre to get that fixed!”

The two girls step inside calling out for anyone that may be there. Thalia attempts to flick a light on, but to no avail.

The corridor is so dark you can’t see down to the end.

“Nice place” Faith starts casually as they creep down the corridor with flashlights.

“Why did we bring flashlights to an orphanage?”

“You complaining?”

“No, just seems a little Smallville that’s all”

“Can we just do this?”

“Do what? We don’t know what we’re doing here, we were expecting people, not torches and dark light”

“Dark light?”

“Dark…Dark. Faith, I don’t care”

“Geez you’re just cheerleader happy aren’t you”

“Bring It On”

Faith looks at Thalia strangely

“The film…about the cheerleaders”

Faiths face is blank

“You need a life”

The girls reach the staircase before a large crash is heard, they spin round to see all the exits sealing behind them.

“That’s not great” Thalia says in concern

“No kidding”

Back at the apartment Dawn is rifling through a pile of books looking up information about the symbols on the musical box whilst Casey sleeps in her room.

She stops suddenly as one of the symbols rings home.

Stopping briefly to take it in she reaches for another book and finds the same symbol

“Where have I seen this before?”

As Dawn reaches for another pile of books Casey creeps out of the bedroom half-asleep and trails to the toilet, Dawns face falls to shock as she sees the symbol. A Birthmark on Casey’s right arm.

As soon as the bathroom door closes, Tara appears infront of Dawn.

“Dawn you’ve got to listen to me”

“You know, the last few seconds have lead me to think otherwise”

Dawn walks over and waves her hand through Tara

“See, you’re the First, I knew it…” she thinks to herself “Oh”

“I’m not the first Dawnie”

“Stop calling me that!”

“Dawn, please, she can’t be here, she can’t stay here”

“This is…it’s just insane why are you doing this? Tara wouldn’t do this”

“I can’t say more than I can talk”

“Huh?”

“Dawn, it’s not safe, she can’t be here”

“What?” Dawn stops and looks down at the book “the symbol”

“Is she evil?” she asks “A demon? Sweets wife or something”

“She’s not. She’s pure”

“So it’s not safe cause she’s good?…oh, it’s not safe for her”

Tara shakes her head

“Well, fine if you’re Tara then why are you so concerned now and not with Caleb or that, whatever that thing last May was?”

“it wasn’t my time Dawn”

“So how come my Mother made it? She only died a year before you”

Tara shakes her head

“It was my mother, right? Not the first?”

“It was her Dawnie, she fought to get to you, she was strong”

“The demon?”

Tara smiles.

“So, where should Casey be?”

“Here”

“The Musical Land? No Chance”

“It’s not there Dawn, you helped destroy it”

“Well, where are you?”

Tara smiles “A Better place”

“Where a better place?”

“I don’t know, it’s not here, it’s not there, it just is”

“Like heaven?”

Tara shrugs “Maybe, all I know is it’s safe”

“Safe from what?”

“It’s safe” she says not changing her tone or expression

As the night creeps over Boston, Connor is alone in a graveyard.

“It’s been so long since I just went patrolling” he says to himself “Just staking a vampire”

He skips over a headstone and stakes a Vampire that is half way out it’s grave

“I mean, this lot, they never patrol it’s just Drama after Drama”

Two vampires creep behind Connor, he spins and kicks one two the ground before running the side of a tomb and flipping over the top of the other.

As he lands he jabs a stake into him.

“It’s silly” he says as he is punches down by the other, flipping back to his feet.

He punches him twice before hurling a stake through him.

“Why can’t they just live…” he turns and grabs the woman by the neck “…and let die”

He stops and lets her go “You’re breathing”

“Ya think?” she says sarcastically as she jumps to her feet

“Sorry, I thought you were a…boy scout”

“A Boy scout? Man you really don’t like boy scouts”

“It’s the uniform”

“So, you didn’t think I was a Vampire?”

“Huh?”

“You know, strong grizzly, skilful…about to get you from behind”

Connor spins and flips the Vampire over his shoulder, to the girl’s feet, she leans forward and stakes it.

“I’m Harley by the way…” she puts her hand out

“Connor”

“You’re Connor? Angelus’ Son?”

“Angel’s Son and how do you know my Father?”

“My Watcher has told me all about the twisted little birth that was yours”

“You’re watcher?”

“Yeah, I’m a slayer”

“A slayer?”

“Yeah, you know, like killer of Vampires, it’s so cool, I mean it would be way cooler to be ‘the’ slayer but nope, I’ll have to settle for being a demi”

“Right, I think I know someone who might wanna meet you”

“Really? Is it a guy? Is he cute?”

“Girl and…in a crazy insane bondage kind of way”

“Cool, so you from Boston?”

“L.A”

“Ooh, cool. New York”

“New York huh?”

“Yeah, I just met this real weird lady who was all ‘sex, sex, sex go to Boston and stay away from Popeye’ crazy”

“And so you came?”

“It sounded like a nice little place”

“Are you deaf?”

END OF PART TWO

“Okay, I’m guessing that is not of the norm in terms of American security” Thalia says, voice cracking.

“Not the America I know”

“So, are you with me on the run to the nearest exit?”

“Way ahead of you” adds Faith from half way down the hall

The clock is shown at 9p.m.

It is now 11p.m, Faith & Thalia are sat in a dark office at the back of the orphanage

“I hate you” Thalia snaps

“Not my fault”

“No, you’re right, I hate Dawn”

“So I’d noticed”

“What does that mean?”

“The two of you, you’re like…bitches”

“Thanks”

“You know what I mean, scrappin’ dogs always barkin’ at eachother”

“We’re so not”

“You so are, she’s even moved out”

“Because of me?”

“She says you both need your space apparently”

“Right, I do”

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why everything? The lying, the sleeping around, the bitchiness…the…”

“Overdose?”

“Hey” Faith holds her hands in surrender “Not judging, just curious”

“All of it”

“All of what?”

“I don’t know, that’s it, it was like everything and nothing or everything was something, like it was everyone’s fault but totally I was to blame”

“Dude, you’ve come across to many cryptic talking bad guys”
“It’s not cryptic, its just non-sensical”

“Is that a word?”

“Maybe”

“Okay, so what’s non sensical?”

“Everything”

“I’m gonna need a little more here”

“Life. Dawn. Magic. All of it, I’ve been living in Boston since I was like seventeen? Or younger I don’t know, I don’t care, but it’s just…what have I done here? It took me until a few months ago to make any friends then I lied to them and nearly got them killed a few dozen times, Dawns got it all, friends, boyfriend, power, brains…but she whines about everything like she’s got it bad…she may have had it bad, but she’s got it going now”

“And the magic?”

“Seems like it’s all I am 2D me, a flash of lightning here and a snowball there”

Faith looks at a saddened Thalia with sympathy.

“What do you think of me?” she asks

“I dunno”

“Come on, honestly I can take it”

“Nothing”

“You don’t think anything of me?” Faith asks quite offended

“No, I mean, nothing like…nothing big, you’re just you, cool and feisty childhood trauma rebound kinda girl”

“Geez, what are you like when you’re nice?”

“Dishonest”

“Look, kid, it’s been a tough ride here as well, believe it or not, with the possible exception of Andrew and the little I know about Ryan, we’ve all had a sucky life. What you’ve gotta do is share it, let everyone have a suck”

“You know that didn’t come out right?”

“I had noticed. Point is, keeping it to yourself will only lead you relationships with big, literal snakes, comas and prison – watching Glitter over and over – it aint pretty”
“Thanks” Thalia smiles

“Don’t mention it, we had a moment”

“Let’s not have one for a while”

“Or ever?” Faith smiles as Thalia smiles back

“Man, this place is…” Faith stops in her sentence as something seems to Dawn on her

“Faith what’s up?”

***flash – Orphanage – 1991***

An Orphanage warden takes Faith to her room

“She’s here until her Mom is out of rehab”

Weeks later Faith is sat awake in her room as the warden’s check the rooms
She hears one of them shouting loudly at a child as he screams there’s a cracking sound before the wardens begin rushing in panic. One of the nurses’ is screaming in panic as another of the warden’s shouts at her.

The following morning at breakfast, Faith is at breakfast, the boy Timothy, who would usually sit opposite her, is missing.
One of the nurses has a bruised face and the Master Warden is looking rather smug with himself as he disappears into his office with a scared looking child

***flash back to now***

“Faith?”

“Repressed memory just came back to help me”

“What?”

“Just remembered why I don’t like orphanages …least of all this one”

Faith begins to run up the stairs followed closely by Thalia.

Over at the apartment Connor & Harley arrive to a blinding blue portal

“Is this normal?” asks Harley

Connor ignores her and begins to squint through the light, looking for Dawn.

She steps out of the room holding Casey in her arms

“Dawn, what the hell is going on?” he says with a bitter fury behind his voice, he grits his teeth and holds his fists tight.

“I have to do this” Dawn says, looking at Connor, her eyes are blotted out with a thick white.

He looks down at the table and sees a cloth next to a bottle of chloroform

“Dawn, tell me you didn’t do that? Dawn you’ll kill her!!”

“I’m saving her”

“Dawn, she’s too small, her body can’t handle that kind of chemical”

A figure, shaped very much like Tara, though unclear due to the light, appears before them holding out her arms. Dawn places Casey in them and the portal closes.

Dawns eyes return to normal as Connor grabs her, he angrily but not violently grabs her by both arms and moves her as if trying to shake sense into her.

“Dawn, what have you done! How can you be so stupid?! Do you even know where you’ve sent her!”

Harley rushes over and pulls him away from a clearly upset Dawn “What are you doing? Leave her alone!”

“She’s an idiot!” he says practically popping a vein

“Connor…don’t…” Dawn says weakly

“Look at you! You’re a mess, you can barely stand and you’ve obviously just done something you can’t handle. You’re an amateur Dawn, You have no idea what you’re doing!”

“She’s safe there Connor”

“Safe where Dawn?! Did you even find out or did you just give an innocent child to a potential villain just because they looked like someone you knew three years ago” He is at this point shouting to the point of scaring both Dawn and Harley

“Connor stop it!” Dawn calls as she grabs hold of him as he begins to leave. He shakes her from his leg and storms out of the door.

Harley kneels down to a very frustrated Dawn.

Connor storms into the bar where Garrison is still with Ryan

“Where’s Faith?”

Garrison stands to attend him, noticing his anger

“Hey buddy calm down, what’s up?”
“Is she here or not?”

“No, she’s gone on some orphanage thing with Thalia”

Connor leans his hands on the bar, breathing heavily

Ryan stands up and walks nearer to Connor

“Whats up? Lose another girl?”

Connor slams his hands down on the bar and sweeps the glasses off, he storms over to Ryan cornering him and points right into his face.

“Now, is really not a good time for you to be talking or breathing or living anywhere near me”

“Calm down!” Garrison says pulling Connors arm away

“What is wrong with you?” Ryan asks scared and genuine

“Dawn”

“What’s she done?” Ryan grows concerned

“She was born! Or created or whatever, she’s an idiot!”

“I thought you liked her?”

“I don’t know! She’s…something is going to happen!”

“What? Connor, what’s going on?” Ryan pleads with him, now cornering him for an answer

“She could’ve killed herself!” Connor says pushing away from Ryan and pacing the bar

“Dawn?”

“Yes Dawn! I just came home to find her completely possessed and white eyed from magic, she drugged Casey and just passed her to hell knows that, through a portal that goes to hell knows where!”

“What? Dawn wouldn’t do that”

“She wouldn’t? Maybe you should go over there and see what she’s doing now see…see how good she feels, see if Casey’s there”

“I can’t believe it” Ryan says quietly

“Strangely…I can” Garrison says quite boldly “She’s weird” he shrugs
“Casey…she’s gone?” asks Ryan in disbelief

“Gone, yes, dead? Maybe…who knows. She thinks she's her Mother”

“Someone needs to talk to her” Garrison adds

Both look at him with a ‘nominating’ look

“No way! We’re not talking friends. You two are her boyfriendlies”

“Which is why neither of us can do this” Connor says, slowly calming

“Bias” Ryan agrees.

Garrison looks least please with the situation at hand.

Back in the orphanage

“It was over here” Faith says regarding the office they were searching for, only they find a wall.

“I swear it was here”

Thalia feels the wall then taps it “It is, that walls hollow”

Faith steps back as Thalia calls forth a powerful wind as the wall comes crashing down. The two girls rush into the room where they are greeted by hundreds upon hundred of ‘dead living children’

“This is new” adds Thalia

Within seconds the ghosts vanish as a man steps in through another door at the side. He’s attaching a mask to is face…his demon face.

“This is predictable” Faith calls as he looks up and sees her

The demon smiles as if it recognizes her, we see things from the demon point of view and see Faith as a child, surrounded by a light, a soul (?) in the shape of an adult Faith. The demon launches onto her and pins her down, he begins to suck the soul out of her.

***Flashback – 1990***

Faith’s pretending to sleep in bed as the man enters the room and sits on the bed with one of the other girls, she is screaming even though he does nothing to her.

***flash to now***

Faith kicks the man off of her and into the opposite wall. The children have reappeared to watch in anticipation.
Thalia is knocked towards the children and bumps into one of them

“You’re solid? Are you dead?”

He shakes his head “Only inside”

“How old are you? How long have you been here?”

“I’m twenty five, I’ve been here for sixteen years”

“Since…since you soul was taken?”

The boy nods Thalia gestures the children to the hole in the wall

“Come on”

Faith continues fighting as Thalia leads the children out, before leaving Thalia sends a small bolt of lightning to a pillar, which crashes down on the demons legs, pinning him in place.

Faith smiles at Thalia as she grabs a letter opener and stabs it into the demons throat.

The two girls begin to walk out onto the street with the children as light suddenly pours from the building into the street.
END OF PART THREE

The light continues to flow as the building dissolves into nothingness, leaving a grave yard behind with nameless head stones.

Around a dozen of the children suddenly appear their ages, their real ages. The rest appear briefly before vanishing into individual lights which land on the graveyard like meteors as writing grows across the stones.

The people with their souls back walk off dazed and confused.

“You get the feeling that wasn’t an orphanage?”

“How so?”

“All of them seem to have a place to go, somewhere they belong”

Faith and Thalia smiles at eachother “Nice that isn’t it” Thalia grins as the two of them walk over to the edge of the graveyard.

Faith grabs a flower from the ground and gently places is it on one of the graves

“Rest In Peace”

The following night Faith & Thalia are dancing in a club, not G Spot, Connor is sat with Ryan and Harley, they all seem to be getting on…at least on a civil level.
Dawn and Garrison are talking in the corner, Dawn looks pissed off.

“You’re telling me that people are tired of me doing stuff I don’t understand”

“Kinda”

“You don’t even know me”

“Nor do I want to if you handle things like this”

“Like what? I did what I thought was best”

“You did what you thought was easiest”

“What is your deal?! Shouldn’t you be focusing on your own problems!”

“What problems?”

Dawn is caught off guard

“Nothing…forget it”

“Dawn, what do you know?”

“It’s nothing” she starts to back down “Just remember you saying Andrew was weird”

“I never said anything to you Dawn”

“Maybe someone else told me”

“Who?”

“I don’t know” thinks off the top of her head “Anya”

“Anya? What does she know? Dawn what aren’t you telling me?”

She looks guilty for betraying Andrew, but she knew Garrison wasn’t giving up.

“That demon, the one that your powers come from”

“What about it?”

“Andrew made a wish to Anya to kill it” Garrisons face drops “It was because…it would’ve killed him. He honestly did not know your powers would go”

“Why would it have killed him?”

“Well, you know, because he was working for it”

“What?”
“In exchange for letting you live? He said you knew”

“Dawn, do you really think that little of me that you think I’d let him do that”

Dawn takes a moment “I’m an idiot”

Garrison is sat fuming, confused, hurt, angry, betrayed, shocked.

He stands and leaves pushing past Connor on his way out

“Garrison wait…” Dawn stands to call him back

“What’ve you done now?” Connor asks very harsh and out of character, Dawn looks through him and walks away. He stands looking to him self, rolling eyes, realising what an idiot he’s been.

Faith, Thalia, Connor, Harley, Dawn and Ryan area all heading back to Faiths for a pre-battle, pre-drink and dance drink.

They open the door, Dawn slips in quietly as does Connor, the others fall in laughing. Stopping to seriousness as soon as they’re within viewing space of the main room.

Huddled in the corner, tattered and dirty is a nervous, shaking and scared Tara.
