Subject: Episode 8.11 - "THE POWERS THAT DO" by Linda_Delurked (Part II)

Scene: Xander’s Car. Dusk.

Xander is driving, while Faith sits in the passenger seat. “More than a Feeling” is playing on the car radio.

Xander: “So what did you want me for?”

Faith: “Well, you’d been staring at the same page in that book for over half an hour, so I figured you’re as talented at research as I am or that was the book with the naked succubi.”

Xander smiles slightly.

Xander: (weakly) “I took that one …er home”.

Faith : “Tell me about it. I was in prison best part of three years. That’s a lot of batteries or a life change. From what Buffy tells me you know Amy, so you can give me the heads up on her.

Xander: “Not much to tell. I used to know her in high school. Her mom had misused magic too. Amy was a bit free and easy with the magic but it seemed she was into some darker stuff we never knew about. I mean Willow hung out with her mostly, but lately… she’s changed. She’s trouble.”

Faith: (smiling) “We should get on great then. (pause) Seriously though, I could use a bit of background for questioning.”

Xander stays silent.

Faith: “Okay then. Describe her to me in five words or less.”

Xander: (bitterly) “Screwed up bitch out to ruin Willows life!”

Faith stares at Xander, surprised at his tone of voice. He’s focused on the road ahead.

Faith: “That’s eight words.”

Xander: “Fine. Screwed up bitch. (pause) Hates Willow.”

Faith: “Why?”

Xander: (shrugs) “Jealousy. Willow’s better at magic than her.”

Faith: “That’s it?”

Xander: “Yup. That’s it.”

Faith considers this.

Xander: (suddenly blurts out) “You think she’d be grateful. I mean, she did go and turn herself into a rat, and it was Willow who changed her back. (slight pause) Of course that could be what has her so riled in the first place.”

Faith: (looking at Xander again) “Speaking of riled, you seem to be taking this personally.”

Xander: (glances at Faith) “You saw what happened to Willow.”

Faith: “Willow said she didn’t cast the spell.”

Xander: “But she’s still involved.”

Faith: “And so’s Raven, but I don’t see you ranting about her.”

Xander: “Raven’s the big bad. She’s got a big bad plan. And sure, she’ll probably hurt us along the way but Amy’s different. It’s all a game to her. (getting worked up) Ever since Willow gave up the dark magic she’s made a target out of her. She’s hurt Willow before and I am getting just too damn sick of things lining up to do that”

Faith: “That the only reason?”

Xander: “…yeah”

Faith: (tuns and faces Xander as much as the seatbelt lets her) “Xander, I want you to listen very carefully to me. If this is personal, if you can’t handle it, I need to know now. Whatever you’re problem is with Amy, I’ve gotta know about it.”

(pause)

Faith: (angrily) “I mean it Xander. Spill it or go home.”

Xander: (blurts out) “Amy’s the one who got Willow into dark magic.”

(pause)

Faith: “Oh.”

Xander: “Yeah. ‘Oh.’”

Faith: (shaking her head) “I knew Willow. She was into magic before I even left Sunnydale.”

Xander: “Yeah, and she was reckless, I know that. But after Tara warned her, after they broke up… Amy introduced her to stuff. Dark stuff. For fun. She damn well encouraged her. And when Willow tried to give it up she came over and tried to pull her back in. (Xander laughs bitterly) That’s probably why Amy’s so mad at Willow. She killed her dealer.”

Faith: “Dealer?”

Xander: “There was this drugs vibe thing going on for a bit. Never worked out really.”

Faith: “Uh huh. Okay. Can you handle this?”

Xander: (hesitates for a second) “Yeah.”

Faith: “You sure? Because I understand if you can’t.”

Xander: “No, it’s okay. I’ll deal.”

Faith: “Okay. Head to Buffy’s house first. I want to grab a couple of stakes in case Raven shows up.”

Scene: Buffy’s house. Day.

Spike, Xander and Clem are still sitting on the sofa and watching Han get frozen in Carbonite. Clem is munching popcorn. Spike is drinking from a mug that says “Piss me off, pay the consequences.” Andrew is furtively glancing at Spike while pretending to watch the screen. On the screen Leia tells Han she loves him.

Andrew leans back. Pretends to yawn. Stretches his arms, puts one arm around Spike’s shoulder. Spike turns very slowly and glares at him. Andrew removes his arm very quickly and shuffles over towards Clem. Spike stands up and Andrew flinches involuntarily.

Spike walks into the kitchen, shaking his head. He almost bumps into Xander who’s coming out of the kitchen and heading to the hall.

Spike: “Hey, how’s Red doing?”

Xander: “She’s been better. We tried to get her to go home but…”

Spike: “Can’t really blame her. If anyone did that to me I’d be out for blood.”

Xander: (looks almost guilty) “Yeah.”

Spike: (eyes narrowing) “You okay?”

Xander: “I’m fine. I’d better go. Faith’s back at the car already.”

Spike: “Need any help?”

Xander: “Nah. We’re just going to question… (hesitates for a second) another witch. Besides I think Faith’s scary enough by herself.”

Spike: (smiles) “Yeah, probably.”

Sound of horn beeping.

Xander: “I’d better go.” (walks out to the hall)

Spike: (calls after him) “Don’t do anything stupid.”

Xander: (smiles) “You know me!”

Spike: “Yeah, that’s the trouble mate.”

Xander walks out of the house. Spike stays standing in the hall. He looks troubled.

Scene: Magic Box. Dusk.

Note: “Talk to you” from Music for Elevators is playing softly on in the background. Strangely, none of the gang seem to notice than Giles is singing on the radio.

Kennedy: “It’s getting late. You want to head back?”

Willow: “No, I’ll wait for the others.”

Kennedy looks over at Dawn, who’s at the far side of the room, talking to Anya. They’re discussing a book.

Kennedy: (Softly to Willow) “So are you going to talk to me or do I have to beat it out of you?”

Willow: “What?”

Kennedy: “Don’t give me that! I know you. You’re feeling guilty. I can tell.”

Willow: (doesn’t look happy) “I don’t know what you mean.”

Kennedy places her hand over Willow’s.

Kennedy: “Talk to me Willow. Please! Is it something Amy said?”

Willow: “She didn’t say anything that isn’t true.”

Kennedy: “So it is something she said?”

Willow: “No it’s…well…she reminded me that this spell…the big bad isn’t the only one who’s cast something like it.”

Kennedy: “I don’t understand.”

Willow: “Whatever this power is that Amy’s using, I used it first. I used it to hurt people. I did terrible things.”

Kennedy: “I know that. You’ve never hidden that from me. And I thought you’d accepted the past and moved on.”

Willow: “I did too. I thought I was okay with it. I mean…(pause) I used to hate Faith for what she’d done. I even told her that there was no way she could ever be our friend, that she’d made her choice and stood against us. But I’ve seen how hard she’s worked to get her life back together. And it must be so hard for her. She has to kill all the time.”

Kennedy: “And you have to cast spells all the time. You’re both needed for the power you lost control of.”

Willow: “I know, and I know that I can never make up for what I did. It’s just…I used to blame the power for what went wrong. But it wasn’t the darkness. It was before that. Before Tara died.”

Kennedy: “What did you do?”

Willow: (tearfully) “It was Tara. We had a row and I tried to make it better by making her forget. She realised what I had done and I promised I would never do it again…only…I did. I was so frightened of losing her… She said it was just like what Glory did to her. And even though I was sorry, even though I loved her more than any magic, I just never understood what that must have been like until now.”

Kennedy reaches over to Willow and hugs her. Dawn and Anya look over at them. They look at each other, obviously worried and uncomfortable.

Kennedy: “Tara forgave you Willow. She forgave you for what you did.”

Willow: (crying) “I just don’t know if she still would.”

Kennedy: “Of course she would. All your friends did, didn’t they?”

Willow nods tearfully, clutching Kennedy.

Scene: Outside of a house. Dusk

Faith looks at the house.

Faith: “The spell said she was alone, right?”

Xander: “Yeah, this must be her place.”

Faith: “I vote for the direct approach.”

Faith rings the doorbell. Amy answers. Faith immediately barges past her and walks into the house. Xander follows.

Faith: (cheerfully) “Hi! You must be Amy. I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Faith, the vampire slayer. What can I say, Powers were having a buy one get one free deal. Yep, one of the two and only.
That’s apart from all the wannabes of course. Kennedy says hi by the way. I’m a friend of Willow’s and I think you know Xander already.

Amy: (closing the door behind her. Faces Faith) “I know who you are. Not surprising you’re Willow’s friend. I hear you’re an even bigger fruitcake than she is.”

Faith: (to Xander) “Not very bright, is she?”

Xander: (very seriously, staring at Amy) “No. She’s really not.”

Faith pushes Amy against the wall. Amy laughs.

Amy: “Oh this is getting old!”

Faith: “Ever wonder if with all these people trying to threaten you that the problem may be you?”

Amy: “Wow! That’s profound! What else did they teach you in group therapy?”

Faith: “What did they teach you?”

Amy: “Please, I am so over that.”

Xander: (heavily) “I heard you kept getting kicked out.”

Amy: “What would you know?”

Xander: “Well there was Rack’s den. Then the coven. You just keep getting kicked out of places Amy. Anybody would think that you weren’t likeable.”

Amy: “Rack was scum, and the coven are worthless.”

Faith: “So you found yourself some worthwhile company, right?”

Xander: “Who are they, Amy? Where are they?”

Amy: “Go to hell! Both of you go to hell!”

Faith: “Been there, done that. Rescued the vampire. Who, now that I think of it, never did give me that T-shirt. (shrugs) Oh well! Why don’t you just tell me what we want to know and we’ll leave you alone. Maybe even in one piece.”

Amy: “You wanna know about the power that hurt Willow? (Amy’s eyes glow a bright yellow) Then let me show you!”

Pause

Amy: (looks annoyed, eyes fade back to normal) “She’s protecting you!”

Faith: (grinning) “Maybe you should have tried staying on her good side?”

Amy smiles back. She pulls out a gun and holds it to Faith’s neck.

Amy: “Can she protect you from this?”

Faith stares at Amy. She doesn’t move.

Xander is looking at them both, an expression of complete and utter shock on his face.

Scene: Buffy’s house. Dusk.

Spike, Andrew and Clem are seated on the sofa. They are trying to decide whether to watch Phantom Menace or skip to Attack of the Clones. They hear the front door open. Spike gets up to see who it is.

Andrew: (annoyed) “He keeps doing that! I thought he liked these movies!”

Spike walks out to the hall. Willow and Kennedy are heading upstairs.

Spike: “Hey! Heard what happened. You okay?”

Willow turns to face him. Her face is slightly tearstained.

Willow: “I’m fine.”

Spike doesn’t push it any further.

Spike: “When we kill this thing, want me to bring you back a souvenir?”

Willow: (smiling) “What, like a couple of entrails?”

Spike: “Too smelly. They rot too fast. Unless you put them in something to preserve them pretty much straight away and then they’re heavy as … (of Kennedy’s horrified expression) I’ll get you a head on a pike. They last ages.”

Willow: (starting to walk up the stairs. Smiles) “Thanks Spike, that’s sweet.”

Kennedy: (quietly to Willow) “It is?”

Spike heads back to the sitting room. Stops in the doorway.

Clem: (looks at him) “Spike?”

Spike: “The smell.”

Andrew: “Yeah, I think I burned the popcorn.”

Spike: “No, when Xander left I caught something on his scent”.

Clem: “You recognised it?”

Andrew: “He has been wearing this really nice new aftershave lately.”

Spike: “I think…I’ve just realised what it was.”

Andrew “’Obsession’ for men?”

Spike “Hate!”

Spike walks away from the door. Clem and Andrew both look puzzled.

Andrew: “Is that by Calvin Klein?”

Spike: Phones Buffy. Gets her answerphone (softly) “Balls!”

Scene: Amy’s Hallway. Dusk.

Amy: “Back off!”

Faith holds her hands up, away from Amy, and takes a step backwards.
Amy looks triumphant. She pushes herself away from the wall.
Faith suddenly jumps back. She braces herself against the other wall and kicks out with both her legs. Amy is thrown backwards. She drops the gun. It slides along the hall towards Xander.

Faith lands, punches Amy in the face and shoves Amy up against the wall again.

Faith: (smiling) “A gun? Okay, now which part of the ‘Slayer’ thing were you fuzzy on?”

Amy: (still smiling) “You’re good. (she touches her face) This is going to be one heck of a bruise tomorrow. Not to mention the bruises on my ribs.”

Faith: “And yet you don’t seem bothered at all, Amy. Why is that?”

Amy: “Because it’s all going to be pretty damning evidence when I call the police on you.”

Faith hesitates

Amy: “You can’t fight your reputation Faith. Do you honestly think they’ll believe you over me?”

Faith glances at Xander

Amy: (brightly) “Oh that’s right! You have a witness. One who’s been harbouring a known fugitive, but I’m sure the courts won’t mind that. Maybe I won’t even press charges. Maybe I’ll let them take you to finish your first sentence. Plus whatever the extra is for the jailbreak. Besides…”

Amy grabs the talisman on Faith’s neck and pulls it off with a snap.

Amy: (eyes glowing yellow) “I’ll already have had my revenge.”

Faith is hit with a burst of power. She falls to the floor, screaming. The power fades. Faith lies there breathless for a second, then struggles to get up. She seems shocked by what she sees.

Amy is up against the wall again. Xander has the gun shoved into her face. Amy opens her mouth to scream. Xander shoves the gun harder into her cheek.

Xander: (hissing under his breath) “Scream and I’ll kill you!”

Buffy and Giles walk through the door. They look frustrated.

Buffy: “Well, that was a bust.”

Giles: “Now Buffy, just because it was a total and utter failure, there’s no need to be negative.”

Buffy looks up as she approaches the table. Dawn and Anya are still reading. Dawn and Buffy smile at each other. Spike walks out from the training room.

Spike: (urgently) “Buff, can I have a word?”

Buffy: (confused) “Uh, yeah. Sure. What?”

Spike: “In private?”

Buffy: (looks even more puzzled) “Okay…”

Spike heads back to the training room. Buffy and Giles exchange looks. Buffy follows Spike into the training room.

Buffy: (concerned) “Spike, what’s wrong?”

Spike: (voice low) “I think something’s wrong with Xander.”

Buffy: “What? Is he hurt?”

Spike: “I don’t know who you sent him to question tonight, but the way he seemed. Like he was prepared to do jast about anything. Maybe even kill”

Buffy: “What are you talking about? Xander would never-”

Spike: “Something almost killed Willow tonight, and whoever Xander went to talk to about it is someone he hates. I’m worried, okay? I’m worried he’s going to do something he’ll regret for the rest of his life. ”

Buffy: (angrily)“No, it’s not in his nature!”

Spike: “I’m not making this up!”

Buffy: “You don’t know Xander like I do! He’d never hurt anyone! God, he cried so much at Tara’s funeral. He more than anyone would never…”

Spike: “This isn’t about violence, Buffy, it’s about watching someone you love suffer, and I’ve been there! You know Xander better than anyone? How many times has he watched Willow get hurt? How many times has he watched you get hurt? Hell, he’s watched you die! Twice! And whoever it was that he was going to question had pissed him off big time!”

Buffy: “How could you possibly know that?”

Spike: “I saw the expression on his face when he left your house! I smelt his hate! Last time he smelt like that I was looking at the business end of an axe, love. I don’t know who he went to talk to, a witch Xander said, but whoever it is, Xander thinks she’s to blame for what happened. And he’s not happy about it.”

Buffy: (horrified, voice soft) “Amy.”

Spike looks at her.

Buffy: “He went to question Amy.”

Spike: (looks just as horrified) “The one who turned Willow into Warren last year? The one who brought Willow to Rack? You sent him to her?”

Buffy: (whispers) “Oh my God!”

Scene: Amy’s Hallway. Dark

Amy: “Let me go!”

Faith: (struggling to get to her feet) “…Xander…”

Amy reaches a hand out towards her phone. Xander violently yanks it out of the wall and throws it across the hall. Amy cringes, obviously terrified.

Xander: (yelling at Amy) “Did you really expect me to let you torture Faith in front of me and do nothing? Did you expect me to let you keep hurting the people I love and not care? Willow is the closest person to me in my whole life! This time the line has been crossed”

Amy: (crying) “Please Xander, don’t hurt me!”

Faith manages to stand up. She hangs back, staring at Xander, trying to figure out what to do.

Xander: (voice getting louder) “Did you know what she’s been through? Do you know how much she’s suffered? How hard this has been for her? Did you even see the spell used on her? She screamed like she was being ripped apart inside! (screams into Amy’s face) You did that to her!”

Amy: (sobbing, panicked) “No! No! It wasn’t me! I swear it wasn’t!”

Xander: (a shade calmer) “So who was it, Amy?”

Amy: “It wasn’t me! (sinks to the floor, crying, Xander leans down so the gun is still against her cheek) Please don’t kill me! It wasn’t my fault!”

Xander steps back, looking at Amy. Faith keeps watching him.

Xander: “Tell us what you know. Tell us everything you know. Don’t leave anything out. Because I want to find out what did this to Willow. And I want it dead. And anything else that stands in my way. Do you understand me?”

Amy is huddled on the floor, sobbing. Faith keeps staring at Xander.

Scene: Magic Box. Dark.

Buffy runs out of the training room, obviously worried. Giles looks up.

Giles: “Buffy? Is everything all right.”

Buffy shakes her head and grabs her mobile, which is sitting on the table of the magic box. As she dials, Spike walks out of the training room, same worried expression on his face. A mobile phone rings in the Magic Box, playing the theme tune to ‘Babylon 5’.

Anya: “Oh, that’s Xander’s. He must have left it here.” (goes to answer it)

Buffy: “It’s okay Anya, it’s me.”

Buffy stops her call. Dawn looks at her.

Dawn: “What’s wrong.”

Buffy doesn’t answer. She looks at Spike.

Scene: Xander’s car. Dark.

Note: “Runaway” by the Corrs is playing on the car radio.

Xander is driving. Faith is sitting beside him. They’re both silent, staring ahead.

Faith: (flatly) “Pull over.”

Xander pulls over. Stops the car. The cheerful music stops abruptly as the car is turned off.

Faith: (turning to Xander) “Give me the gun.”

Xander fishes the gun out and hands it to her.

Faith walks out of the car and over to an unlit part of a bridge. She takes out the magazine unloads the bullets into the water, crushes the barrel then drops the gun in after them. She walks back to the car and slams the door behind her.

Faith: “What the hell was that?”

Xander stares at the road ahead. His face is shadowed in the dim light.

Faith: “Did we not have a discussion about whether or not you could handle this? Did you not tell me that you could deal?”

Xander: (softly) “I did deal.”

Faith: “The hell you did! You were almost ready to kill that girl! You threatened her with a gun! Guess what that sort of stuff leads to? Prison! And I’m thinking you won’t be spending time there with a whole buncha horny girls”

Xander: “She told us what she knew.”

Faith: “And you gave her more than enough material to get you arrested. More than enough to get me arrested.”

Xander: “She doesn’t have any proof.”

Faith: “She doesn’t need proof, Harris! I’m a fugitive, remember?”

Xander: “That’s why I scared her into leaving us alone.”

Faith looks at Xander for a second. He’s still staring ahead.

Faith: “You planned this.”

Xander: “I took a gamble. I figured you’d know what to do with the gun afterwards.”

Faith: “Did you figure what I’d do if you lost control.”

Xander: “I figured you’d stop me.”

Faith: “Uh huh? And then what, Xander? What would I do then? Head back to the magic box and say ‘Sorry guys! Xander went gun crazy and I had to kill him!’ Did you think about that? (slight pause) Did you think about anything? Or were you just so hot to scare Amy half to death and get your revenge that you suddenly didn’t care?”

Xander doesn’t answer.

Faith: (slams her hand on the dashboard and screams) “Look at me when I’m talking to you!”

Xander turns to face Faith. His face is lit by a nearby streetlamp. He’s crying.

Faith stares back at him.

Faith: “Stop crying.”

Xander: (doesn’t seem to understand) “What?”

Faith: “Quit with the tears big boy. It makes me feel all mushy and I think I’m allergic ”

Xander: (wiping his eyes, obviously confused) “Sorry.”

Faith: (laughs) “Sorry? You’re sorry?”

Faith turns to look at the road ahead. She takes a deep breath. Xander looks at her in silence.

Faith: “Were you going to kill her.”

Xander: “No. I swear. I mean, I was so angry at her but I’d never…”

Faith: “So you wanted to scare her.”

Xander: “Yes.”

Faith: “So she’d tell us what she knew.”

Xander: (pauses for a second) “That was part of it.”

Faith: “What was the other part.”

Xander: “What I said to her. She’s made Willow suffer. (shaking his head) I just… I couldn’t…”

Faith: “You wanted her to suffer too.”

Xander hesitates. Nods silently.

Faith: (incredulous) “You really think she’s to blame for Willow going off the rails don’t you? (angrily) Willow made mistakes Xander! She made her choices, just like I did and now she’s dealing. And as far as I’m concerned you both need to build a bridge and get over it!”

Xander: “I know it wasn’t Amy that caused Willow to… I know Willow. She’s my friend. I’ve always known her, better than anyone. (voice harder) But she’s tried so hard to make up for what she’s done and Amy just keeps dragging the past back up. She just keeps on pushing and punishing and hurting…”

Faith: “So you decided to do a little hurting of your own, huh? A little gun violence to keep her in check.”

Xander: (yelling) “Don’t talk to me about gun violence, Faith! I’m the one who saw Buffy get shot! I’m the one who watched her almost bleed to death! And all that time, all that time, Willow was up in her room with Tara’s body! Amy wants to bring a gun into the fight? Fine! I’m not going to hesitate!”

Faith: (yelling back) “Does it make you feel better? Terrorising Amy? Did it make any of those memories the least bit happier? Is that why you decided to pay her back?”

Xander: I decided to scare her! I decided to terrify her so much she’d never even think about coming near Willow again! That’s what I wanted to do!”

Faith: “Well congratulations Harris! Excellent job! Amy cried and begged for her life. I think we can both safely say that she was scared.”

Xander: (hollowly, sounding defeated) “You think I did the wrong thing?”

Faith: “I think you made the biggest mistake you’ve ever made in your life.”

Xander: “She told us what she knew, Faith. And I don’t think she’ll come near us for a long time.”

Faith: “It’s not about Amy. It’s not about if she calls the police or not. It’s about me never trusting you at my back again. (Xander looks stunned) Maybe you didn’t cross the line Xander, but you came too damn close. And I’ve got enough enemies to worry about without having to second guess my friends.”

Xander: (quietly) “I’m sorry.”

Faith: “You said that already.”

Xander: (sighs) “I did, didn’t I?”

Faith: “What do I tell Buffy?”

Xander: “Tell her the truth.”

Faith: “That you brandished a gun at Amy? That you threatened to kill her? Told her that you wanted to kill her?”

Xander: “The truth. All of it. She needs to know.”

Faith considers this.

Faith: “Yeah, she does.”

Xander starts up the car.

Xander: “We’d better get going. It’s almost ten.”

Faith: “That’s not a path you want to follow down stud. Repentant psycho killer ”

Xander: “Like you?”

Faith “Yep, what I’m saying”

Scene Summer’s house. Living room. Dark.

Dawn opens the front door and walks in. Goes to turn on the light and notices Andrew and Clem fast asleep on the couch. Andrew is sucking his thumb. On the TV the menu of the Phantom Menace DVD is playing.

Dawn smiles, stands in front of them both and folds her arms.

Dawn: “Wow, is that Mark Hamill ”

Andrew springs awake “Where?”

Clem stirs awake: “Hey Dawn.”

Dawn: “Okay boys, time for Artoo to go away for the day”

Andrew (pouts): “But it’s still early and we haven’t watched all the deleted scenes yet”

Dawn: ”Then that’s something to have to look forward to another day. I have research to do now.”

Clem: “Want any help? A snack maybe?”

Dawn: “No, just need to be able to concentrate on saving the planet again ”

Clem (to Andrew) “It’s still pretty early. Ever played kitten poker?”

Cut to a couple of minutes later as Clem and Andrew are about to go out.

Andrew: “Did I mention cat fur makes me sneeze..”

Dawn: “Goodnight Clem”

Clem: “Goodnight honey”

Dawn: “Hey Andrew?”

Andrew: “What?”

Dawn: (giggling) “May the Force be with you!”

Scene: Willow’s bedroom. Night.

Willow is lighting two white candles. A small joss stick is burning in a holder between then. Kennedy hovers behind her, uncertain.

Kennedy: “You sure you don’t need anything?”

Willow: (shakes her head and smiles) “I’ll be fine.”

Kennedy smiles back, kisses Willow and leaves the room.

Willow takes a deep breath and begins to meditate.

Scene: Amy’s house. Night.

Amy is slumped in the hallway. It looks like she hasn’t moved since Xander and Faith’s visit. She’s crying. The doorbell rings. Amy jumps. She stands up and looks out the peephole before opening the door.

Two robed figures stalk silently into the room. Amy immediately starts babbling.

Amy: “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! I swear I didn’t tell them anything important!”

Robed Figure #1: “Your Master is most pleased with you!”

Amy stares at him.

Amy: “I-I don’t understand. I told them secrets. I had to…”

Robed Figure #1 “To stay alive, yes. That is paramount to our mission. We must survive, no matter what the cost. We are the only ones left now.”

Amy: (tearfully) “That’s why my Master is so happy? Because I lived?”

Robed Figure #1: “You did much more than that. You have driven a sword into the very heart of the slayer’s allies. You have given us the key to their spirit. Your actions here tonight will have great consequences, all to our benefit. And our Master bestows a gift upon you, to thank you for your loyal servitude.”

Amy: (perking up a little) “A gift?”

Robed Figure #1 beckons Robed Figure #2, who reaches under his robe and presents the parchment that was bled from Willow.

Robed Figure #1: “This is all the Red Witch’s knowledge of Our Master’s power. It now belongs to you. (Hands it to Amy) What has been taken from her by force, is given to you in thanks.”

Amy takes the parchment, smiling.

Scene: Willow’s bedroom, night.

Note: “Nan’s Song by Robbie Williams is playing softly over the scene

Willow sits in the candlelight with the smell of incense filling the air.

Willow gets up and opens a draw. Takes out a framed photo of Tara and herself. She sits back on the bed and traces Tara’s face with her finger in the flickering of the candle light. Willow looks up into the darkness, lost in her thoughts.

Scene fades to a dorm room whilst on screen the words “University of Sunnydale. May 6th 2002” appear.

Tara lies in bed with Willow who is resting her head on her shoulder.

Tara: “I think we should do a spell later thanking the Goddess for the gift of make-up sex.”

Willow: “Yeah, well we missed Beltane by a few days but I think we made up for it tonight”

They kiss.

Willow: “Tara?”

Tara: “Yes sweetie?”

Willow: “I have missed you so much!”

Tara (smiles): “That’s about the tenth time you have said that in the last three hours you know!”

Willow: “Do I get a kiss for every time I say it?”

Tara: “Mmmm. Two kisses”

Willow: “I missed you, I missed you, I missed you, I missed you times infinity”

Tara: “Still the vixen! I really missed you too.(kisses Willow) Every moment, but I just needed you to find your own way”

Willow: “I know…. I really think things are going to be better now. I am controlling the magic and I know what I did was wrong….”

Tara: “But?”

Willow: “I need you to forgive me. For what I did. For messing with your memory. For…everything.”

Tara: “Will, you need to forgive yourself too. I can be there for you and I always will be, you know that, but ultimately you have to find that strength inside you, that strength that I already know is there.”

Willow: “I will, I will be strong. For you and for myself but before I can be I truly find that, I have to know that you forgive me.”

Tara: ”Of course I forgive you Willow. I love you.”

Willow strokes Tara’s hair and smiles at her.

Willow: “Thank you.”

There is a sound of someone knocking at the door

Sunnydale, Willow’s room, Present day

Dawn (outside) “Can I come in?”

Willow (Wipes a tear away and puts Tara’s photo down): “Sure Dawnie”

Dawn enters and notices the candles & incense. “Oh, if you were in the middle of a spell..”

Willow: “It’s okay, I was just meditating, trying to heal.”

Dawn: “That’s why I am here. I made you this pouch. It has a protection spell and healing properties. (shrugs) I thought it might help”

Willow: “I’m sure it will sweetie.”

Dawn (gives pouch to Willow). “I’ll leave you to it. Loads of research still to do with my name on it…Goodnight”

Willow: “Goodnight….Oh, Dawn, where did you find the spell?”

Dawn: “It was one of Tara’s. It was in her Book of Shadows. Funny thing was it was bookmarked and I don’t remember putting one there. (Dawn smiles. Willow gazes at the pouch, a look of wonder on her face as Dawn says) Oh well, I must be getting absent minded in my old age!”

There’s a slight pause as Dawn hangs by the door, and Willow looks at the pouch.

Dawn: “Well, I’ll um…leave you alone. To heal.”

Willow: (softly, tearfully) “Yeah.”

Dawn closes the door.

Willow picks up Tara’s photo, Tears in her eyes as she holds the pouch.

She traces Tara’s hair again. She smiles.

Willow: (whispers) “Thank you”

Background music plays more loudly, so that the words of the final verse are heard as Willow holds the photo and cries.

The Next Time that we meet
I will bow at her feet
And say “wasn’t life sweet?”
As we prepare
To take Heaven down there…

Instrumental.

End
