Subject: Episode 8.01 - "SEEK" - by Neil

The scene opens in New York. It is late at night. A girl steps out of a taxi and pays the driver and thanks him. She then starts to walk down the street and turns into a dark alley. It begins raining and then we hear it start to thunder.

Girl: “Oh crap! this is all I need”

She suddenly stops dead in her tracks with a frightened look on her face. Stood in front of her is a vampire, she turns to run but he grabs her.

Vampire: “I just love a late night snack”

The girl screams in fright as the vampire goes for her neck ready to sink its teeth into when suddenly the vampire is pulled off her by a mystery figure. (All we see are the mystery figures hand and arm.) Then we get another close up shot of the vampire’s chest as the mystery figure sinks a stake into the vampire. The vampire turns to dust.

The girl composes herself and stands up.

She says “Thank you! Thank you! What was…”

She suddenly stops in shock, the mystery figure grabs her by the throat and she screams again.



All of sudden Buffy wakes up in bed with a start.

Music…

The scene opens with a shot over the Summers house. It’s early morning. The sun is shining bright orange on the Summers house. The rays of the sun gently creep up to Buffy’s face as the sun gets higher and higher in the sky and shines brightly through her bedroom window, until the light reaches her eyes and she wakes up suddenly. Buffy gets out of bed and shouts Dawn.

Buffy: “Dawn! Dawn! Are you up yet? Oh my god, what the hell’s wrong with this clock? (Shakes clock) The clock says 9.20AM”

Buffy rushes down stairs, wearing her pyjamas. She yells: “Dawn, are you up?”

Buffy walks into the kitchen. Andrew is reading a newspaper, Kennedy seems to be cooking breakfast. The radio is on. The song playing in the background is “Mr. Sandman”

Andrew has the newspaper up to his face but lowers the paper and says Dawn already left for school; Xander picked her up an hour ago. We see the newspaper flat on the table and certain parts of the paper are circled in red. The writing is too small to tell what is written in the circled parts. Andrew then picks the paper back up and carries on reading his newspaper.

Buffy asks why Willow didn’t wake her up. She knew Giles wanted her down at the Magic Box ruins as he said he needs her help with something. Buffy says he wanted to meet her at 9.00AM and it’s now frickin 9.30AM!!

“Where is Willow anyway?” she asks?

Kennedy and Andrew burst into laughter and Buffy’s face turns to shock and confusion

Buffy: “What’s the big joke guys, are you laughing at my pyjamas? Because if you…”

Kennedy interrupts: “Willow had some magical stuff to take care of before college, she left the house early. Said she needed a head start”

Buffy: “To where?”

Kennedy leaves the kitchen and says she’s gonna take a shower. Andrew shrugs his shoulders. Buffy now has a very confused look on her face.

“I have to go now.” she says as she leaves the room.

The kitchen door swings shut as she leaves. Andrew says yeah O.K., but not really paying Buffy much attention and not even noticing she’s left the kitchen.

Buffy is now walking down a busy street. She turns the corner and stands shocked at the sight she sees.

Across the street there is huge construction machinery. At the other side are blocks of broken concrete, mostly rubble. Amongst the lot of rubble we can make out a beat up sign that reads ‘Magic Box’

Between the machinery and rubble we see Giles, Anya and Faith. They are all dressed in jeans and shirts with work overalls over the top, they’re all also wearing hardhats. There is nobody else with them, they are all-alone and seem to be working the site between the three of them.

Buffy approaches them and asks what the hell they’re doing.

Anya pushes a shovel to Buffy and says I’m rebuilding my business; Giles chips in ‘Our business’

Buffy questions: “O.K. then guys! But… why are you doing it, doesn’t a building firm like, usually do this? I don’t understand? Is this a joke?”

Anya: “Saving money is no joke, it saves us much needed cash! And with two Slayers on the job we will be back in business in no time at all!! Besides I don’t want to see Xander here. I need to distance myself from him as much as possible. Can you divorce your ex? I know Hallie said kids are divorcing their parents these days but…”

Buffy says she had no idea that they were re-building the magic shop.

Anya: “Well I didn’t plan on flipping burgers in the Doublemeat Palace for the rest of my life. Besides I’ll need the money, especially if I get my….”

A huge bang rudely interrupts Anya so we do not hear what she was about to say. Thunder and lightning begins. Buffy turns to Giles and says that’s no ordinary storm is it?

Giles: “I’ll read the Watcher Chronicles later….”

“I’m gonna shovel the first patch of earth,” Anya says. “How’s my hair? I want to look good for the photo, my big opportunity! The re-opening of my magic shop, I’ve even written a speech, it goes like this….”

Giles interrupts: “It’s our store Anya and as main proprietor I feel it’s my duty to…. “

The camera zooms up to Anya and Giles as they argue; Giles is trying to pull the piece of paper off Anya with her supposed speech on.

The camera zooms back out, the Magic Box is as it was and fully re-built, the machinery is gone, as is all the rubble that was left. The camera spins around now facing Buffy who is in complete shock.

"Guys what just happened here?" Buffy says whilst trying to stop them arguing over the now torn and beat up scrap of paper.

The camera spins around again, much faster this time.

Anya is now in a green dress (similar colour to her bridesmaid dresses) Giles is in a suit and Faith is also wearing a dress. Anya finally snatches the paper with the speech on and begins reading it… we cannot hear what she is saying, but just her mumbling.

The thunder and lightning begins again. Buffy comments on how sunny it was this morning and now it’s mid afternoon it’s gonna pour down with rain. Giles and Anya continue arguing again until….

“Guys, I need to find Willow, where is she?” Buffy shouts

Giles and Anya burst into laughter, while Buffy and Faith have a confused look on their faces.

The lightning strikes something in the distance and flames erupt. Giles and Anya stop laughing.

Buffy: “The lightning. It just struck something… did you see that explosion?. Guys, I’m gonna meet Dawn from school, get her home and check it out. Faith can you find Willow and Xander, tell them something strange is going. I want to meet up back home”

Faith then says as Buffy turns to leave “Don’t you think it’s kinda strange B”

Buffy: “What’s strange?”

Faith: “That we’re unique, the chosen two!

Buffy: I guess, but there are all the potentials out there and they will be…

Faith: “Yeah, but that’s not the same as the slayer B. Two’s company and….”

Faith is interrupted by the thunder that seems to be getting louder and closer.

Buffy heads off shouting over her shoulder “I think I have to find Willow and the others, tell them to meet me at the house…”

Faith mumbles under her breath “Willow can’t help you”




Buffy arrives at the school, it’s deserted, nobody around.

With a puzzled look on her face she says, “Where did everyone go?”



The next scene opens with Buffy walking inside the school. It is empty. Buffy begins to shout “Dawn!” when she hears a door creak open. She walks inside and stood inside is Xander. Xander is wearing a blindfold and seems to be knocking into the desks.

Xander: “Ready or not! Here I come!”

Buffy: “Xander what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be on the….

Xander interrupts: “Ssh! I can hear them moving. Once I’ve got them, it will be my turn to run and hide. Damn it, I can’t see a thing with this darn blindfold on.

The door slams shut behind Buffy. Buffy looks over her shoulder at the door and turns then turns back to see that Xander is gone.

Buffy: “What the hell?”

Buffy leaves the school and outside pulls her cellphone out of her pocket and dials ‘Home’, the phone begins to ring….

We hear Andrew answer at the other end:

“The Slayer, no I mean Summers house.” he says correcting himself. We hear party music in the background. Buffy tells Andrew about Dawn being missing and for the gang to go out searching. Andrew says Dawn came home hours ago, She’s doing her homework and she has to write her autobiography for English. Buffy says under her breath "what?" Andrew comments that’s what he thought about Dawns homework too, how lame?

Buffy tries to explain to Andrew that’s not what she is shocked about, she decides not to go into a long explanation on the phone and tells Andrew she will be home soon.

Buffy arrives home, she walks through the front door, sat on the stairs opposite the door, Dawn is reading a book. Then around the corner Andrew, Spike and Xander are sat at the table playing cards. In the middle of the table, sat in a cage is a cat (looks like Miss Kitty Fantastico!) Andrew jumps up in excitement and says

“I win again! Full house!”

Xander: “What are you gonna do with the cat anyway? Eat it?”

Andrew: “Hmm, maybe I’ll summon a M’Fashnik demon again”

Xander (shocked voice): “Can you control one of those things?”

Andrew: “I’ve learnt some new tricks. I like to consider myself the Jedi of demon controlling. Yeah, I’ll trade the cat for some mega bucks.”

He turns to Spike and says do “M’Fashnik demons like eating cats?”

Spike: “Well they prefer to eat kittens because…”

Buffy interrupts “Guys what are you doing? Where are the others? And why are you playing cards, shouldn’t you be, uh….?”

Spike: “Can’t you see love? Were bonding! I’m one of the guys, almost human now love”

Xander: “Besides Buff, the building site shut down. Some new competition in town has taken all our business away with vengeance.”

Spike: “All the demon bars are shut, even Willie’s. Some new bad in town frightening the demons?”

Andrew: “They didn’t have a copy of Star Wars Episode Two at the video store, that’s my excuse!”

Buffy rolls her eyes at Andrew and says,

“You guys (looks at Xander and Spike) don’t bond, you hate each other!”

We hear a noise at the door. Dawn is doing something near the door. Buffy approaches her and says “Dawnie what you doing?”

Dawn: “There are monsters out there Buffy, we need to protect ourselves”

Dawn is locking and unlocking the door continuously.

Dawn: “I worked out if I turn the key this way the door won’t open and then if I turn it the opposite way it will! What do you think this means Buffy” Dawn asks with intrigue.

Buffy pulls Dawn away from the door and says that she has to go out and find Willow; she hasn’t seen her all day!

Everyone starts laughing including Dawn, who rolls around on the floor in hysterics.

Buffy opens the door and stood in the doorway is Willow, all in black, both her hair and eyes are pitch black. Buffy says, “It’s you!”

A bolt of magic hits Buffy, which knocks her over.

Buffy looks around the room, nobody is there!

Although we do not see her Willow says “It’s not my fault, I can’t control it, it’s a part of me now, it’s what I am, I’m evil!”

Then all of a sudden a voice shouts “Buffy are you up, it’s your first day at school”

Buffy wakes up.

We see the exact same scene that we saw in “Welcome to the Hellmouth” where Buffy has the bad dream and Joyce comes into her room.

Joyce: “Oh Sweetheart did you have a bad dream?”

Joyce then morphs into a huge yellow misty entity “Or was it a nightmare?” the thing continues…

Buffy springs out of bed and says, “What the hell are you as she reaches for a weapon”

Entity: “Put your stakes, crosses and swords away Slayer! Your not fighting evil here, your not fighting Gods, First Evil dead people doppelgangers. I’m better than those, I don’t need followers to worship me, I have no scaly minions or guys with no vision, nor nothing to see, no way forward. I am forever and I am neither good nor evil, I just am. Don’t worry your dream has ended, but your nightmare has just be gone. You have only just begun!

The entity disappears, but we hear its last words has it morphs away and says, “I have what I came here for”

Buffy wakes up with a start…. Buffy gets out of bed and looks out of the window in confusion. She then walks on to the landing and shouts Dawn….

Buffy: “Dawn! Dawn! Are you up yet? Oh my god, what the hell’s wrong with this clock? The clock says 9.20AM! I should have been at the school like an hour ago!”

Buffy rushes down stairs, wearing her pyjamas and yells: “Dawn, are you up?”

Buffy walks into the kitchen. Andrew is reading a newspaper, Kennedy seems to be cooking breakfast. The radio is on. The song playing in the background is “Mr Sandman”

Buffy stares at the radio with a confused look on her face, marches up to it, switches it off, then says she’s going to get dressed as she is running late and walks out the kitchen. Kennedy and Andrew have a puzzled look on their faces as Buffy leaves the kitchen.

Buffy arrives at Xander's apartment. Giles and Xander are sat at a table.

Buffy: “The Slayers in Training? did they all get back to their watchers O.K.?”

Giles: “Yes, what’s left of the Council have banded together and all remaining SIT are now with a Watcher of their own. Buffy, you wanted to talk to me?”

Buffy: “The dreams, they’re…. they’re getting worse Giles. More weird night after night, last night was the worst by far. A girl died Giles”

She continues, “I need to know more about the slayers dreams Giles, what they mean, why they occur!”

Xander: “Another SIT? Was it a bringer who killed her”

Buffy turns to face Xander

Buffy: “No, I don’t think so, the strange thing is I didn’t feel the dead girls pain, I felt the killers! I don’t understand why and how, but that’s what I felt and to top my bad morning off something visited me and I don’t know what it was. It said it wasn’t evil or good, it told me it had got what it came for, but yet it took nothing with it. I don’t understand?”

Giles: “We will look into it Buffy, don’t worry”

Xander: Why did you want to meet here, why not at the house?”

Buffy: “That’s the weird part of my dream, before I woke up I saw…”

Buffy is interrupted when the door opens and Willow comes in.

Willow: “What you all doing? having a meeting without me?”

Buffy gets up and says: “I’ve got to go, I’m late!”

Willow looks confused and says: “O.K. Buffy, see you later at home”

Buffy: “Yeah see you later”

Buffy gets up and glances over her shoulder at Willow as she leaves the apartment.

Willow is laughing and joking with Xander.

Buffy closes the door and stops outside the apartment. She has a worried look on her face as she carries on walking.

GRR ARGH!!!
