Catching everyone up.. the shop had confirmed the alternator as dead and while they initially thought they could possibly repair it, they later came back and said whomever had worked on it previously (extra windings I think) glued the case together and made it impossible for them to take apart to repair -- hence replacement needed....

I ultimately bought the eBay 189 unit. It installed without issue and seems to work, puts out something like 13.5 or so at 2000 rpm measured across the battery terminals.

Here's my concern/issue:
Now that all is hooked up again as it was, I find, measured so precisely by my Kuryakyn anmeter / output gauge... When riding at speed or idling above 1500 rpm (choke) I'm in the green... 13+

Unfortunately, switching on my driving lights (50W bulbs) tosses me well into the red at any speed.. thus, it seems clear that the alternator doesn't put out nearly as much as the prior unit (expected, but not as significantly).

Unless there are other suggestions I'm thinking I've only two options:

a) reduce load by changing many bulbs to LED and especially tossing the 50W driving lamps in favor of something else

b) waiting for Carl or someone else to have a higher output alternator available.

Thoughts?
