Marz normally didn't trust anyone above the age of twenty-one because most people over that age seemed to look down at him. Prime examples of that were Justin and Dalo, who often eyed him with disgust. Within the past year and a half, Marz learned that there were exceptions to the rule. He enjoyed having Erlic as his mentor, got along rather well with Ravin, and had no qualms about the older healer Valhorek, who now sat at the table with them. The only time the man ever gave him a hard time was when he got injured. From past experience Marz knew that Val took his job of healing very seriously, and could become an absolute tyrant when a patient didn't follow his orders.

The ex-gang leader had the feeling that Tristan would miss Eremis, but he was glad that Erlic decided to replace him with Valhorek. The dragon might have found Eremis pretty to look at, but the youth stunk when it came to aiding the injured on the battlefield. He remembered that Val was an excellent swordsman as well as a healer and that earned him Marz's respect. Eremis would probably do well in a big city hospice that was safe except for the occasional nutcase that was admitted. The blue-eyed youth certainly didn't belong in the field where he always ended up hiding under the nearest rock!

As he scarfed down more eggs and ham, Marz listened to Val talk about The Azusa. He smirked, recalling his first journey aboard the large ship. After spending two days in his cabin with seasickness, he finally managed to make his way to the deck where he spotted Erlic walking along one of the ship's railings.

Anxious to prove to himself that he had perfect balance like his teacher, Marz decided to walk the ship's railings later that day. Because he had failed to notify the captain of his intentions and assure him that he knew what he was doing, (like Erlic did), the crewmen lassoed him then pulled his arse to the deck before he could fall overboard. Naturally, Marz lost his temper, attacking the men once he slipped out from the heavy rope. That action gained him Erlic's wrath along with a lecture that seemed to last for hours. He sighed at the memory then turned to Tristan with a quizzical expression on his face when he said something about practicing.

"Your meditation!" the dragon clarified when he saw Marz's befuddlement. "Erlic said to, remember? Well, come on!"

Marz nearly choked on the piece of ham he was in the process of swallowing when Tristan pulled him out of his chair. He had a bit of a coughing fit as he was led down the hall then up the stairs to their room. If I didn't love you so damn much, I would have bashed your face in for dragging me away from breakfast, he thought, once his coughing subsided.

Although he really wasn't in the mood for this shit right now, he followed Tristan's orders and began doing the jumping jacks at a rapid pace. "I feel like I'm gonna barf!" he said, stopping after about five minutes. Marz panted heavily while glaring at the dragon. "Maybe it's not such a good idea to be jumping around like that right after a heavy meal!"

He grabbed one of the pillows from the bed, tossed it on the floor then plopped his arse down on it. Sitting in the lotus position while wearing his boots, tight clothing, and weaponry wasn't very comfortable at all. He didn't know what he was supposed to do next since he hadn't been paying any attention to the order of things last night, thinking that he only needed to worry about following Erlic's instructions. After belching a few times, he wiped sweat from his forehead then looked at Tristan expectantly. "Now what?"

While the dragon thought about how the next part of the exercise went, an unstoppable urge came upon Marz. He whipped the pillow out from under him, jumped to his feet and smacked Tristan across the shoulder with it. "Arm yourself, wimp!" Marz said, displaying a playful grin on his face. "Cause I'm about to kick your ass with my mighty pillow!" With that said, he pelted Tristan in the face with his feathery soft weapon.
