Subject: Preparing for the chakra session

Marz noticed the heated tone of Laurel's voice and wondered what might have ticked her off. From what he could understand of her words, it seemed she didn't care much for the talents of thieves. Maybe she had her pocket picked once too often, he thought, snickering under his breath.

“You speak as though you have no taste for civilized law and order, Erlic," Laurel was saying. "The day that professionals such as yourself are allowed to practice freely their craft is the day that chaos rules us all.”

"Damn straight!" Marz whispered to Tristan. "It's the raking thieves that will throw the world into chaos, and destroy it. Forget the power hungry crime-lords, like Tegol, or the evil mages that keep trying to gain control of the world. They are nothing compared to those bad-assed thieves!"

Jeremy, who was sitting close enough to overhear Marz, joined him in a fit of laughter. The ex-gang leader quieted down immediately when Erlic met his eyes. He accepted the pouch his teacher handed him then nodded his understanding of the instructions he was given on how to prepare for his chakra session. When Erlic gave Tristan permission to join him, Marz grinned because he was about to say that he would like to have the dragon in the room with them.

While Erlic paced the dining hall, Marz finished his second sandwich then proceeded to scarf down the bread and other condiments that Tristan had set aside. He couldn't remember ever being quite this hungry before. Whatever spell the Queen used on him certainly gave him a ravenous appetite!

When Jeremy offered him a cigarette, he took it then handed it to Tristan. The dragon seemed to enjoy the dirty habit of smoking a lot more than Marz did. He indulged in a cigarette occasionally, but saw nothing wrong with Tristan puffing away on the things a lot more often. At least they didn't alter the mind like raking drugs did!

Marz downed the rest of his Pepsi while listening to Erlic's rebuttal to what Laurel said earlier. After a few minutes, he grew bored with the talk of thieves, chaos, and some crap Erlic called dogma. "Let's go upstairs," he said, nudging Tristan.

After he got to his feet, Marz leaned over to whisper in Corum's ear. "Remember what I taught you with Syn and you'll do fine with Tia tonight." He backed away, giving his friend a knowing wink before making his way out of the dining hall. No longer did he jump to pull Tristan along with him because he vowed to himself that he would never again touch the dragon in public. He shoved his hands into his pockets when Tristan came up alongside of him. Together they mounted the stairs, reaching their room a few minutes later.

Marz ignored the almost always present urge to share a few heated kissed with Tristan, moving away from him instead to light the incense he was given. Since Erlic wanted him to be comfortable, he removed his weapons, setting them neatly on the table before tugging off his boots and sliding them next to the dresser.

"That stuff smells great!" he said, inhaling deeply of the incense that now permeated the air. Marz grabbed a pillow, fluffed it up a bit then laid it on the floor. He plopped his arse down on it, drawing his long legs in like Erlic thought him to do before each meditation session.

"Damn! I can't remember those mantras because I haven't practiced them in so long," he said, meeting Tristan's eyes. Marz placed his hands on his knees then drew in a deep breath through his nose, exhaling the air slowly through pursed lips. "I need something to focus on in order to keep my mind from flying from one thing to another, Tris. Got anything suggestions?"
