Subject: The deal's off

Rowan couldn’t believe what he was doing. A step closer and a few heavily suggestive words had been all the go ahead Marz needed. What am I doing? he wondered, drawing in a sharp breath as the dark-eyed youth grabbed his hips and ground them against his own. Beautiful, smoldering Marz was to be his next conquest. And this to follow a young boy from another world, a refined and handsome queen, and a girl he had yet to lay his hands on… And before that, the others, gods, the moment he’d come to this place he’d begun chasing them. Kyri, sweet, fiery-tempered Kyri, and even her husband, gods damn him. No use pretending it’s a new habit. I’ve spent my life seducing others on a whim…

But who was seducing whom here? He was momentarily startled when Marz pinned his arms behind his back, but when the whispered promises began to trickle into his ear, he relaxed, a strange smile coming to his face. Yes, he thought, his breath quickening even more than usual as he felt the boy’s experienced hand slip down into the front of his pants, I’m tired of always being in control. He was so caught off guard by the way Marz had quickly reversed the roles that he feared he might become overanxious and make a fool of himself by coming prematurely.

He didn’t hear the sudden clearing of someone’s throat, but Marz’s response was loud and abrupt enough to shock him back into his senses. He barely noticed the exchange of words between the two others; his mind and body were still whirling with burning desire and need. When Marz left the room, he slumped down to the ground, not bothering to catch his pants as they slipped off his hips somewhat.

He raised his head slowly and fastened his gaze on Jeremy, who was looking him over with a strange appearance of both interest and disgust, although which emotion won out, Rowan was too dazed to figure out. His expression hardened as he finally started to listen to what the boy was saying. How dare that crazy kid of his turn around and throw his own warnings back in his face like that! Who the hell cared if he were right or not? He had no right to be pointing it out in the first place!

“That’s enough!” Rowan finally spit out, his teeth grinding together. Jeremy shut up momentarily, but he still looked rather upset. The boy crossed his arms and shook his head, the obviously disgusted look on his face somehow managing to burn Rowan right through to the core. Annoyed with the way things had turned out, he got suddenly to his feet, holding his pants up with one hand and bringing the other up to slap Jeremy hard across the face, so hard it left a bright, pink hand mark on his cheek.

“Don’t you dare presume to know what was going on here!” he shouted, as he moved to quickly tie the laces on his pants back up again. The material felt too tight against his body, but he still couldn’t clear his mind of the feel of Marz’s hands stroking him or his tongue probing his mouth with the same, expert finesse.

“Don’t you dare presume to know why I do what I do, either!” Before he knew what he was doing, he grabbed Jeremy by the collar and pushed him backwards until the boy’s back bumped against the far wall. “You shouldn’t be so surprised, anyway,” he continued, his angry face only inches away from Jeremy’s now, “I did the same thing to you. Or did you think you were somehow special? Don’t you get it?” he persisted, almost flinching at the hurt look in the boy’s face. “This is what I do, Jeremy. It’s just what I do!”

With a muttered curse, he released him, pacing the room a couple times before pausing to sit on the edge of one of the small beds in the room. He pushed his head into his hands, squeezing his eyes shut while he tried to figure out just what the hell he really was trying to do here. Aside from the fact Tristan probably would kill him had he been caught, he also knew he had no right to meddle with the dragon and his lover. That’s what made Marz so appealing right now, he realized. He was so utterly, heartbreakingly unavailable. Stealing him just once could be the one thing that would destroy an otherwise perfect relationship—perfect because the two really were completely and totally devoted to one another.

“So what will you do for a feather, huh kid?” he asked, chuckling lightly, though he didn’t feel at all amused. He removed his hands and lifted his head, staring into the wide, brown eyes of the once innocent Jeremy.
