Subject: Finding a tavern
In reply to: Tristan and Rowan 's message, "Rumble in the...Ruins?" on 17:46:49 04/13/02 Sat

A slow grin spread across Marz's face when he sensed Tristan come up beside him. Feeling his lover's hand slip into his was a very pleasant surprise. Knowing that the dragon was becoming a little more open about touching in public thrilled him immensely. Having to curb any desires he had to get close to Tristan often got on his nerves. He wanted to be able to hold or kiss his lover in front of whomever he damn well pleased without having to suffer repercussions because of it. Slowly but surely, he seemed to be getting his wish and that left him feeling more and more content with being in a loving relationship.

“You know how you always see those really annoying kinds of couples?" Tristan asked. The ones who are always going at it in public with each other, grossing other people out and stuff? I guess that’ll never be us, huh.”

While still holding his hand, Marz turned to face his lover. He let his eyes roam over his face for a moment then took a step closer, making Tristan back up against the wall of the temple. "I wouldn't be so sure about that," he whispered, before meeting his lips in a sensuous kiss. His free hand slid beneath the dragon's shirt, enjoying the feel of soft skin stretched over taut muscles. When the kiss ended they were both breathing heavily as they stared into one another's eyes until the spell was broken by the sound of their friends approaching. "We'll have to continue this later, Tris."

Marz pulled away from his lover and tried to ignore the ache of his arousal as he led everyone into one of the nearby buildings, located about twenty-four yards away from the Spider Man Temple. Upon finding a lantern filled with oil on a table near the door, he lit it with the flint and steel that sat beside it. Light flooded the place, revealing an ancient day tavern. A number of small tables filled a large room and a wooden bar was at the north end with shelves stocked with liquor behind it. To the left of the bar stood a door and off to the right were stairs leading up to a second floor. "Well, let's check the place out," Marz instructed, while moving off to the bar.

A look of puzzlement crossed Tia's face when she saw Rowan approach her, simply because the elf looked nervous about something. "I had a wonderful night's sleep," she said in answer to his question, "and I hope the same holds true for you."

"Which group are you going with?" he asked. "I'd like to go with you, if that's all right."

Tia almost laughed. Since when did Rowan feel the need to ask permission to join a specific group? "Of course you can come with me, silly," she quipped, grabbing his hand and dragging him off after Marz and Tristan.

When she learned that the building they entered was a tavern, she grinned. "Hey, maybe we can have our usual, at the end of the day, party in here later instead of at the hot springs. There seems to be plenty of liquor and I bet there are nice rooms upstairs with comfy beds."

Jeremy was in a rather sullen mood and it was all due to Rowan. He had looked forward to sharing a long, leisurely night with the elf for a change but never got his wish. Maybe I'm only good enough for a quickie, he thought heatedly, as he watched Rowan move up alongside of Tia once they exited the temple. Suddenly, he lost all desire to be in Marz's group since the elf was a part of it. He hung back and watched them enter a building in the distance then turned to see Erlic leading his group into another building several yards away.

After deciding that he didn't want to come between Rowan and any of his latest games of conquest, he pulled out a bag of Cheetos and slowly made his way toward the structure Erlic's group had entered. Because the ruins were lit only by the moon he didn't see the figure hiding alongside the crumbling walls of a home that had toppled from either decay or an earthquake. Jeremy just finished swallowing a Cheeto when a hand flew over his mouth while a strong arm gripped him around his waist. The bag of Cheetos flew from his hand, its contents spilling across the ground as he struggled to get away.

Whoever held him was too strong to be thwarted, and he was easily dragged into a nearby building. As soon as the hand left his mouth, a fist flew into his face, stunning him. His arms were pulled behind his back so forcefully he thought his shoulder would dislocate. As he was about to let out a cry for help he was savagely punched in the stomach, knocking all the air out of him. Although his vision swam he was able to now see the face of a bearded man standing before him, dressed in dark clothing.

"Where is Prince Alakbar?" The man behind him, who imprisoned his arms, whispered the question in his ear. "We know he is somewhere in these ruins. You will now tell us exactly where we can find him."

When Jeremy shook his head a fist flew across his jaw. He blinked at the man before him while swallowing blood that filled his mouth. "I don't know any Alakbar," he managed to say.

"Infidel!" the bearded man hissed. "Our mages have shown us the ones that travel with Alabar in the crystal and you are one that was with him earlier." He grabbed Jeremy's swollen jaw and squeezed, making the youth whimper in pain. "My companions and I have searched these ruins for the past two hours and we grow tired of looking. Tell us where is the Prince and we will let you live."

Companions? Did that mean that there were more than the two that captured him within the ruins? If these men were truly assassins like Erlic said they were, Jeremy knew they would kill him the minute he told them what they wanted to know. His only chance of surviving was to stall until his friends realized he was missing and started to search for him. Hopefully, they'd find him before these two fanatics got tired of abusing him. "I don't know where your Alakbar is."

Jeremy cried out when he felt a bone in his right arm snap. Over and over again, he was struck in the face and abdomen until he nearly passed out. He gagged on the blood in his mouth when the man behind him released his arms and grabbed him by the hair, snapping his head back and forcing him to his knees. Tears of pain rolled down from his blackened eyes, and fear coursed through him with he felt the cold steel of a dagger pressed against his throat.

"Tell us now where Alakbar is or I am going to start cutting you into tiny pieces," his bearded captor hissed.
