Isobel listened with interest to Ravin's tale of his life. She could see now why it was so important for him to make sure the Rovers were safe. She would have done the same had it been her family.

She smiled as he recounted his apprenticeship as a thief. It still amazed her that people who were theives could also be such basically good people. Not like back home, where thieves were disgusting and evil people stealing from rich people or those who could not afford to lose anything. It did not matter to the thief. But here, thieves could be honorable and decent people, as she had learned.

She was saddened to hear of his mentor's death. It was no wonder he hated Tegol Denair. The evil man was responsible for so much ill in the world. It was a wonder no one had killed the cabron yet.

She smiled again as he recounted his introduction to Erlic and how things had worked out. It was amazing, really, how many small events could weave such a pattern in a person's life to lead somewhere completely unexpected.

Whe he spoke of his wife, Isobel lowered her eyes. She knew how it felt to miss someone you loved. She wished she could take the emptiness and the hollow pain he must feel away. But only time could do that.

Ravin kissed her cheek. "Why don't we go eat something?" he said. "Once our stomachs are full, maybe I can convince you to continue our discussion in the privacy of one of those houses."

Isobel grinned. "I am certain I could be convinced, if motivated properly."

She took his hand and got to her feet, smiling at his insistence that she lean on him if her leg hurt. "It is fine, Seņor Ravin. Between Argus and Valhorek I believe it is almost as good as new."

Isobel took the java Ravin offered her and accepted a helping of fried moonsnakes (she actually quite liked them) from the Jann, as well as some potatoes and ribs. She was quite hungry, and her belly began to growl in anticipation.

The took their food to a nearby area where people were seated and ate, enjoying the food and the momentary feeling of safety. She smiled at Ravin, anticipating what delights dessert might hold.
