Corum stood outside the doorway as Jeremy looked into the mirror. From his vantage point Corum couldn’t make out who Jeremy was looking at, but it seemed quite obvious that the apparition had disturbed the youth. Tia, being the helpful person she was, simply wrapped an arm around Jeremy, until they were ready to leave.

Corum tried to make a mental reminder about looking in the mirror himself if they had the time. For now, he simply followed the others as they made their way downstairs. Marz wasn’t too happy to find Rowan already there. Maybe his friend should have told him not to go downstairs instead of Yorik. Corum simply smiled at the thought, and when Marz had another confrontation with the Jann about their beloved peacock throne, his friend took off in a huff, leading them down a passageway.

Never one to be left behind, Corum made haste as he finally caught up with the party, just in time to see Marz disappear through the floor. Now why was it that Marz always managed to find the secret doors, and he didn’t, he thought to himself. That was totally unfair, and Corum decided he would have to start practicing on finding secret doors, but without falling through them of course.

They all huddled around the area, surprised to see Marz standing, and equally surprised to see a whole bunch of slithery type creatures sliding along the way as well, some of them quite intent on making Marz either their next meal, or their friend; more than likely their next meal. Who in their right mind would want to make friends with a snake, or the other way around?

Black water Hattie lived back in the swamp, where the strange green reptiles crawl. Snakes hang thick from the cypress trees like sausage on a smokehouse wall, where the swamp is alive with a thousand eyes, an' all of them watching you. Stay off the track to Hattie's Shack in the back of the Black Bayou.

Corum looked down again, and wondered if this was in fact Hattie’s place or not. Maybe Yorik knew something he didn’t know. While he pondered that thought, Tia pulled out a rope, made some hold it, and climbed down. Rowan followed suit, and then a quite fidgety, not to mention scared Tristan simply jumped down into the hole. Well that was quite impressive, but then again, Tristan seemed to always be doing something impressive lately.

“Well, Yorik,” Corum muttered. “What say we feed you, and try to save the day?” Corum made sure he plopped a few peanuts into Yorik’s mouth, waited a few seconds, and started to pound the staff a couple of times on the ground, while keeping the head aimed at some of the bigger snakes that stood away from the others. Corum thought he heard a loud belch as a stream of fire simply shot down, and started to burn a bunch of snakes, big ones yet. “YES!” Corum shouted. “Way to go Yorik! Score one for the good guys.”

Open the basket. Listen to the flute play. Open the basket. Listen to the flute play. Toot toot toot play. Snakes in the basket lie to lead you astray. Snakes in the basket force to make you betray your innermost truth hidden away.

Corum moved toward the Jann holding the rope, nodded, and easily grabbed onto it, as he slid down the dark hole. Midway, he spotted another of the huge creatures ready to pounce on an unsuspecting Tia. He could only hope that Yorik had enough gas left for another belch. He tapped the end of the staff against the wall, and aimed Yorik’s head at the thing. Well, he was right, kind of. There wasn’t that much fire in the second belch, but at least it did enough damage to thwart the snake from making good its attack.

Corum quickly slid to the bottom, and delivered a most bodacious blow to the thing’s skull. It simply just stood there as if dazed. Corum blew on the snake, and it toppled over. “Excellent dude!” Corum stated as he turned to see if any more of the creepy crawler needed a lesson in managerial behavior.
