Subject: Only good snake is a dead one
In reply to: Corum & Yorik 's message, "Slip sliding away" on 19:55:20 03/22/02 Fri

Marz's eyes shifted from the advancing snakes to Rowan, who was in the process of climbing down a rope. The elf had courage as well as damn good looks! He was so preoccupied with watching Rowan he didn't notice that one of the giant snakes was almost on top of him. A grin spread across Marz's face when the elf's dagger hit the creature right between its eyes. His initial dislike of Rowan was fading fast. The elf was definitely turning into someone he'd like to get to know a lot better!

A shadow looming overhead alerted Marz to the presence of a snake creeping up behind him. He spun quickly, his sword slicing the creature in half before it got close enough to sink its fangs into him. A sharp cry of pain made him spin around again. Shock at seeing Tristan land on the hill of snakes made him freeze in place. What the hell was he doing down in the pit? Although his lover was supposed to be a fierce dragon, he was rather skittish when it came to creepy crawly things like spiders and snakes.

When Marz helped Tristan to his feet he became aware of how badly his lover's hands shook as he eyed the approaching snakes. Why'd you bother to come down here, if you're so damn afraid? he wondered. Sometimes he thought that Tristan was more suited for lounging around a house all day thinking deep thoughts rather then adventuring.

Together they turned to combat another of the giant snakes that rushed at them. The creature was no match for the blur of swords that sliced through the air, ending its life swiftly. More of the huge snakes toppled thanks to fire that spewed from Yorik and Tia's well-aimed throwing knives.

Fighting back to back, Marz and Tristan made mince meat of two more of the creatures while their companions finished off the others. Once the battle was over, Marz turned to Tristan, a lopsided grin playing on his face. He stared into his lover's eyes for a moment then pulled him into his arms, locking their lips together for a passionate kiss. "Sorry. I just couldn't help myself," Marz quipped when their lips parted. The adrenaline rush that occurred during an intense battle could be very erotic at times.

After examining the pit and finding nothing of interest, everyone exited via the rope with Marz aiding Tristan so that he wouldn't have to put too much pressure on his sore shoulder.

"You should let me check the area for traps and possible pits," Tia said once they were all safely in the cavern.

Marz frowned. Leading a group though an ancient temple was a lot different than leading a gang through the city! He never had to worry about silly traps or a portion of the street collapsing out from under him while he walked down it. And, the only monsters that dwelled in the city where of the human variety. Before meeting Erlic, his battles had been against mercs and rival gang members. Nowadays, he never knew what to expect. Hell, a year ago he didn't believe in such things as dragons, yet here he was, in love with one of the mythical creatures!

"Well, don't just stand there," Marz said to the pretty thief. "Go check out that door for raking traps."

Tia grinned then skirted around the hole in the floor. Upon reaching the door, she investigated it thoroughly before announcing that she didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Marz kept his sword in hand as he beckoned the others to follow him to the door. It opened easily revealing another huge cavern, dimly lit by a magical light source. The ex-gang leader moved deeper into the room with Tristan walking beside him.

The floor of the cavern was littered with skeletons and skulls and a wide tunnel cut into the east wall. Tapestries showed scenes of looting, pillage, and rape while shelves along the west wall displayed mummified heads of humans and animals. Hideous torture devices filled the center of the room, and the cries of those that had suffered here could almost be heard echoing off the walls of the chamber.

"I think the priests who used to worship here were a pretty nasty lot," Marz said. He thought of how he was made to suffer under the hands of Tegol's torturer as he fingered a whip he found lying on a table alongside of straight razors and an iron rod used for branding horses.
