Another quake hit as they were lifting Isobel out of the pit and she slammed against the wall, scraping her elbows on the way up. Finally she was pulled out and swore under her breath as she looked at her bleeding elbows.

"It is a good thing you had that rope," she said to Tia.

"We're never going to get this stupid chest up that winding staircase," Tia shouted. "Either we leave it or open it now then snatch what we can from inside and get the hell out of here before this entire place collapses!"

Isobel nodded and stumbled toward the chest. The key flew from her fingers as another quake sent her toppling, but she quickly grabbed it and slammed it into the lock, turning it. There was an inaudible click and Isobel pushed the chest open.

"Madre del Dios!" she breathed as she looked into the chest. "There must be thousands of coins! And look at the jewels and rings... quickly let us stuff what we can into our packs!"

Everyone began shovelling the treasure into their packs, as much as they could hold. Jade seemed particularly interested in the rings and she took a number of them, leaving the gold for the others.

Once they had all stuffed their packs they turned and hurried up the stairs just as a large part of the ceiling collapsed into the pit. Isobel burst out of the door into the dressing room and nearly collapsed.

"Ay... that was close! What is happening?" She panted.

"Well, maybe we should go find out," Jade said with amusement.

Isobel nodded, rubbing her swollen wrist. She looked around to make sure Tia and Laurel had made it up the stairs all right. When she saw them walk in she said, "Si.. let us go. I have need of the healer in any case."
