Author: Marz
Subject: Chilling in the tower

While they talked about Eremis, Marz glanced outside the cell occasionally. He wanted to be ready should any more Sharm burst into the room. Sitting inside the small enclosure disturbed him a little. What if the cell door accidentally slammed shut and got jammed? They would be stuck in the cell, which was only a little bigger that the closet Sistino used to lock him in.

Marz gulped and fidgeted a bit. He pushed away the thought of being trapped, focusing on what Tristan had to say instead. It was true that Eremis was innocent, and quite naïve for his age. Living a life of relative ease in a small farming community certainly didn't prepare him for a place like Bizmar!

Tristan seemed especially disturbed by Ravin's vision of a man forcing himself on the young healer. Tegol's organization was made up of a lot of perverts, many with very disgusting sexual fetishes. Hopefully, the perverted bastards that found Eremis attractive wouldn't be the ones that could only get stimulated by causing pain to a chosen partner. The healer would have a hard enough time getting used to the advances of men; he really didn't need the added bonus of being physically abused as well. The drugs and liquor they stuffed Eremis with would make him somewhat unaware of what exactly was happening to him any way. And, once they raped him of his mind, he would no longer give a damn what they did to his body.

"Let's hope Dalo finds out where they stashed Eremis, and rescues him quickly," Marz said. He was unable to meet Tristan's eyes at the moment because he couldn't bear seeing the hurt he might cause by what he was about to say. "The longer he's a prisoner, the worse things will become for him. Right now, he's probably locked in a cell and given food laced with opium. Ravin's vision probably concerns the future because I don't think they'd try to take advantage of him right away. Normally, they wait until a person is addicted before the offer a fix in return for sexual favors shit starts"

Marz pulled the juice flask from his waist belt and took a long drink before passing it to Tristan. "I'm pretty sure that Eremis is fine at the moment. It takes at least three days for opium to hook most people, so if Dalo can rescue him before then he's got a good chance of recovery. If they find him after a week, I can guarantee that he'll never be the same person again. According to Erlic, he was snatched last night, so we have some time before we need to really start worrying. No doubt, he's sleeping like a baby in a cell right now and no one is bothering him yet."

He took Tristan's hand in his and squeezed it before his eyes shifted to Corum who started to mumble. As he tried to sit up, Val and Barry rushed into the cell. The skull rattled on nonsensically while the healer fed the skull-staff wielder a potion. Marz waited until Barry finished explaining what happened before he spoke to his best friend.

"We killed those raking Sharm bastards that knocked you out, buddy." When he saw the disappointed look on Corum's face, he grinned. "I'm sure there's more Sharm running around the ruins, so you'll get your chance to smash in a few heads." He went on to tell Corum about the huge, red hairball with tentacles that he and Tristan had killed then pointed to the bald woman outside the cell. "I heard her say her name was Jade. The Sharm were trying to convert her to their religion."

The ex-gang leader's eyes fell upon Rowan and Tia then. "I guess they found a way out of that wall thing," he said, glancing at Tristan. When footsteps were heard running up the staircase, he reached for his sword but relaxed when he saw Justin and the Jann enter the area. "Looks like our big happy family is all together again," he quipped.

"We must explore any ancient temples we find within the ruins," Sheik Daraba said loudly. "I believe the Peacock Throne is located in catacombs beneath one of the temples."

A frown crossed Marz's face as he turned back to Tristan and Corum. "I didn't see any raking trees around yet. Where the hell are we suppose to find branches of Midnight Hue if trees don't even grow in the salty ground here?" Of course he didn't expect his friends to answer since they were obviously just as stumped as he was.

He let his arm casually rest across Tristan's shoulder, and gave him a small smile. "Do you feel better about Eremis now? Did I manage to get rid of some of that coldness you felt earlier?"
