Subject: Are we leaving for real?
In reply to: Isobel and Barry 's message, "I'd walk a mile for a camel" on 14:56:18 01/18/02 Fri

One by one, the group started to exit the campfire, and slowly make their way toward the camels so that they could pick out the camel of their choice. It wasn’t like they hadn’t ridden camels before; it was basically which one was ornerier than the other one. For some reason Corum hadn’t encountered any difficulties, and couldn’t see what all the fuss was about.

"C'mon, Chief. You don't want to have to ride the nastiest camel in the desert. Shake your bones or you'll end up with the last one standing."

“You got a point dude,” Corum answered back to the skull. “Let’s make like the shepherd, and get the flock out of here.”

With that the skull wielding youth, equipped with one monkey by the name of Brat, and one kangaroo rat by the name of Eyes, got up, and slowly made his…their way toward the camels. Judging by the activity around the Jann camp, it looked like they were really going to leave this place.

Many's the time I've been mistaken, and many times confused. And I've often felt forsaken, and certainly misused. But it's all right, it's all right, I'm just weary to my bones. Still, you don't expect to be bright, and Bon Vivant, so far away from home, so far away from home.

Corum thought about how much time the group had spent in Neromba. Now that he thought about it they had been here quite a while. “Well,” he said to no one in particular. “We’ll be back home soon.” He turned to Yorik, and gave him a smile. “Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about his anniversary. When we get back we’ll make it up to him.”

Once a year the skull staff wielder managed to go back to the outskirts of his hometown, to visit the grave sight of his fallen mentor. Today would have been the man’s birthday. Corum smiled to himself thinking of everything he had taught him. “Don’t worry Yorik, we’ll be back there soon.”

My mind's distracted and diffused. My thoughts are many miles away. They lie with you when you're asleep, and kiss you when you start your day.

That brought a smile to Corum’s face, as did spotting Tia. He quickly moved up to the young, and petite elf. “C’mon Tia,” Corum stated. “You’ve gotta ride with someone. Yorik, Barry, and me will keep you company.” As a second note he added. “Oh yeah, Brat, and Eyes will keep you company as well.”

He winked, and smiled at Tia, as they found a camel suitable for traveling. Corum cupped his hands together to give Tia a boost up on the camel. He then remembered how to make the camel kneel, and with the use of Yorik, managed to get the camel down on his front knees. He was soon sitting behind the pretty elf.

“So, what’s a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this?”

Valhorek was walking toward the camels, and spotted Ravin looking a bit down. It suddenly occurred to him that perhaps never having been in Neromba, Ravin was unaccustomed to riding camels, let alone boarding one. He stepped next to the thief, and examined the animal. “I think this one will do fine,” he stated to the thief. “Now the hard part is getting to board it.”

With that he positioned himself in front of the animal, and coaxed it to a kneeling position. He helped the thief onto the animal slowly, realizing that any sudden move could hinder the man rather than help him. Eventually, however, Valhorek was able to get Ravin onto the camel. Once the thief had been situated, the healer mounted the animal, and sat behind Ravin.

He also realized that since Ravin was injured, he’d probably need his assistance during the journey in case the thief needed anything that required his services. Hopefully they wouldn’t be riding too long, and Ravin would be able to get the needed rest his body required.

They finally got into the line that had been forming. It seemed that the Jann were the ones who knew where they were going, so Val simply waited. During that time, he explained to Ravin how to steer a camel, and also gave him a quick history of the animal, and how it was considered a price workhorse in the dessert.

Erlic watched as the other walked toward the camels, and picked their steeds for the journey. He continued to survey the area around him hoping that the assassins wouldn’t make a last ditch effort in attacking.

Eventually, when he was satisfied with the situation, he made his way to the outer camels, and picked one at random. He gave it some salt, and finally boarded the creature. He looked around, and spotted Rowan. He moved his camel toward the elf, and once there, bent down speak to him in whispers. “Keep your eyes open for any signs of trouble, Rowan,” the guild master stated. “With our luck, the assassins may try something during the course of the night. Just be prepared.”

With that he straightened up, and headed for Laurel who seemed to be examining the other camels. Perhaps during their ride, he could converse with her a bit more, and possibly have a conversation without any outside interruptions. Of course there would be disruptions, of that he was certain, but he could at least try, and regain the confidence of the lovely druid.

He held out his hand to Laurel. “Would the lady care to join a thief on this ride?” he asked, hoping she would join him.
