Author: Corum & Yorik
Subject: Quite simple, really
In reply to: Tristan 's message, "You had to ask" on 00:01:36 01/24/02 Thu

Now that Corum was actually listening to Tristan, something, which had, hadn’t done in the past; well he had but not really. In all actuality, he really didn’t listen too much of what anyone had to say, unless he felt that it sounded important. Well, the more he thought about that it really wasn’t true. Marz was, well just Marz. He had learned his friend’s behavioral pattern, and knew that although the youth tried to be bold, tough, macho, whatever, he was really a little kid deep down inside. Of course Marz was never going to admit to that, it simply was the way he was.

Corum was glad when Marz, and Tristan got together. Although he really couldn’t figure out the why, or how they finally hitched up, he was simply happy for both of them. So, when they actually had something to say, and it was directly addressed to him, that’s when he really paid attention, otherwise it was probably some sort of rambling on their part.

“Yep, Marz is a jerk,” Corum stated agreeing with Tristan. The dragon simply raised an eyebrow at Corum, who was supposed to be Marz’s bestest of best friend. “But you really have to understand how his mind works.”

Corum had found this out early in their relationship. Marz was quite stubborn, and sometimes didn’t understand what was being said. “For example,” Corum piped up. “Did you say: I’m not touching you until you get rid of the damn fleas, or, I’m not touching you until you get rid of the damn fleas?”

Tristan gave Corum a scowl as the youth laughed. “OK, here’s the deal. The first time you said it, did you smile afterwards or not? If you did smile, then you said it the right way, but if you didn’t smile, then Marz took it literally that you really didn’t want to touch him, and that’s probably why he stormed off. As far as he’s concerned, you’re the one that didn’t want anything to do with him.”

That much was true. Although Marz claimed to be the toughest tough guy in the world, he still needed people, even though he never admitted to it.

Corum smiled as Tristan tried to explain the relationship that existed between him and Marz, but to no avail. “Yeah, yeah,” Corum answered. “I know all about your fun stuff.” Corum started to laugh but quickly became somber. “Yeah Jeremy’s an idiot, but he’s still a good kid. You let Marz go storming away. Marz needs someone with him at all times. He can’t stand to be alone. If Jeremy happened to be there, he’d probably accept it for a little bit, and then probably shoo the kid away. That’s the way Marz is. He needs attention, and he needs affection. He’s like really hungry when it comes to that. That’s the part you really gotta work on, cause that’s the way you’ll finally get to Marz’s good side.”

Corum remembered at time when he got turned into a frog by some form of magical trap. Marz was livid, furious, and all of the above. And yet, the youth still managed to grab all the loot from the chests they were checking out, pick up the frog, which was now Corum, his staff, and still managed to carry everything, and everyone out of the lair. Marz cursed Corum up, and down for turning into a frog, even though it hadn’t been his fault to begin with. But deep down, Marz was enjoying the feeling of being alone, yet being with someone at the same time.

Can anybody find me somebody to love? Each morning I get up I die a little, can barely stand on my feet. Take a look in the mirror, and cry. Lord what you’re doing to me, I have spent all my years in believing you, but I just can’t get no relief, Lord! Somebody, somebody, can anybody find me somebody to love?

Corum thought about Yorik’s words, and felt they had some merit to the conversation at hand. “If you think about it,” Corum continued. “It’s really quite simple. Marz is stubborn, and I mean like really stubborn. But on the other hand, Tristan is stubborn, very stubborn. So right off the bat, both of you are, in some ways, quite equal to each other. However, you’re supposed to be older than Marz, and that’s where things get complicated.

Use the words like flowing river touches. Embraces parting hard steel surfaces revealing pages. Beneath the water skin broken like ice flows. Smashed by iron bows and the back of the whale.

OK, it couldn’t last forever, and Corum knew that Yorik would eventually start talking some nonsense, but he continued with Tristan. “If you speak negatively to Marz, he actually thinks that he did something wrong, or is at fault, but, and here it gets tricky, he insists that he is in the right, because you pointed out to him that he was in the wrong to begin with. Actually that comes from his childhood delusion of living with Sistino. No matter what he did, it was always wrong, always, not never, always, not sometimes, but always. Get the picture?”

Reaching leaning scratching vainly faces dancing locked lipped and between-thigh-secret. Briolette tears drip from frozen masks as death-thro questions don't get asked.

Corum again shook his head trying to put together what Yorik was saying. Such distractions weren’t making his life any easier. “Again, then there’s you. You have the ability to go off in a corner, and be content to be by yourself, no question asked, no problemo. Marz, on the other hand, will go off into a corner, and last about fifteen seconds before he has to go and seek someone out. It’s his nature to seek someone out. Actually anyone, so long as they can keep him company. Think about it, how often have you actually seen Marz really along? I thought so. My point exactly.

Communication disinformation. So entertaining. Blood money blood money, it's wild out here. Situation's all right, gonna keep up the lies, and our version of life.

“Did you ever stop and think why Marz likes, loves you, or whatever?” Corum asked Tristan. “So why is he still hanging around you? And for that matter, why are you hanging around him?” Corum had a smile on his face hoping that Tristan got the general drift of the conversation. “None of you bother to actually communicate with each other. Oh yeah, you talk, and you say this, or you say that, but you don’t communicate, and if you do, you do it improperly, thereby getting your signals crossed, and thus starting your so called arguments, or having someone stomp off in a huff, or whatever. It’s plain as the nose on your face, the cigarette in your mouth, and anything else that makes any sense.”

I've seen your face a thousand times, and I've heard your voice in everything. And but I've always known that love would be a simple song that I would sing. And as I wait I sing this song to you, and to a hollow moon like a golden ring, and to a tree that stands solo in an opening. The night before the day we meet. And the beast and baby have to meet. Until they do they cry, and they cry alone, and the moon must line up with the sun, and burn the path that lights us home.

Well it took Yorik long enough to get back on track. “So,” Corum stated trying to finish. “Do you understand, or did I make it even more screwed up than it already was?”
