Author: Isobel, Argus (with Barry)
Subject: Well? Is everyone just going to stand around gawking?
In reply to: Valhorek 's message, "Playing it by ear" on 19:04:00 01/24/02 Thu

Isobel followed Valhorek to where everyone was gathered. They were all crowded around a man who had apparently come from the large mirror that was stuck in the sand. That was... unusual to say the least.

"What is he saying?" she asked Valhorek, but he apparently had as much difficulty with the man's strange speech as she did. He was guzzling a cup of water that Laurel had brought him. Laurel cautioned the man to drink slowly, which was of course wise advice. Otherwise the man would probably cramp up badly.

"Drink it slowly? Berd, ay 'aven't 'ad any wati in yer wha must be a dozun years at least! Ay am not go'n ter drink it slowly!" the scraggly man complained.

Isobel frowned. What was he saying? He'd been without water for a dozen years? He must be exaggerating... or else she had misinterpreted what he said.

He seemed rather hostile for someone who should be grateful to have just been released from his mirror prison. "Repulsive slob! You should show more gratitude, considering if it were not for these people you would still be stuck in your mirror!"

Argus shot her a dirty look. "You'd be a mite grumpy, tew, if you'd beun trapped in de uvver wirld fe..." he paused, unsure of just how long he'd been there. "Fe years!"

Valhorek handed Isobel his falcon and stepped up to assist the strange man (who, she conceded, had a point -- but she still thought he should show more gratitude). She took the bird carefully in her arms and watched.

Argus looked at the healer as he approached. "My name is Valhorek, and I’m a healer,” he said. “If you’ll allow it, I can see to any wounds you might have.”

His first impulse was to tell the man to sod off, but he realized he was only trying to help. "If yew must, but ay think ay be custy. Juss rezzed a while back and ay be bright as new ever' time."

He stood there as Valhorek seemed to be just staring at him for now. Maybe the git didn't understand him either. He hoped he'd pick up their way of speaking soon... or else they'd pay closer attention.

"E'yer, ay yew go'n ter take me ter yer ozzie tent er do ay juss undress right e'yer in front o' all de berds?" he asked impatiently.

This prompted the skull to start cackling. "He just asked if you're taking him to the hospital tent or should he get naked in front of the dames!" The skull announced. "I think I like this berk!"
