Marz shot Barry a heated look of disgust when he didn't fall for the Yorika scam. Did the floating bonehead have to be so damn smart? Maybe Barry had more brains than the normal idiot to make up for his lack of a body. That had to be it! There was no other reasonable explanation for why they were outsmarted by a hunk of bone! Marz soothed his bruised ego by convincing himself that any other skull would have fallen in love with Yorika instantly. Barry was just a weirdo!

His rising anger subsided when the goofy skull consented to hassle Justin IF they cleaned up Yorik. Marz had to admit that it was about time Corum's skinny pal got a bath, so he nodded. His hand came up to shake on the deal, but he lowered it quickly when he remembered that Barry had nothing to shake with. Suddenly, Marz felt a little sorry for the skull. Being alive without having a body to enjoy life with must really suck! "If I ever end up like that, kill me," he whispered to Tristan, who gave him a questioning look.

After finding out about a nearby stream and discussing the assassins briefly, they left the camp. Yorik drew plenty of stares from the Jann they passed, confirming Marz's belief that they had done a damn good job of turning him into an alluring vixen. A beautiful relationship might have developed between the two skulls in the group if Barry wasn't so picky about things. He wondered if Yorik's feelings were hurt because of Barry's rejection then smacked himself in the forehead. "I'm turning into a loon like Corum!" he muttered.

When they reached the stream, Marz sat on the smoothest protrusion of rock he could find, pulling Tristan down beside him. He kept one arm around the dragon's shoulder while sipping from the wineglass he had carried along and watching Corum dunk Yorik. The sun was just beginning to vanish from sight in the West and the air was already turning a little cooler. Nights in Neromba were always beautiful, but Marz didn’t think he'd ever get used to the drastic drop in temperature of more than forty degrees once the sun set.

He pulled Tristan closer, resting his head on his shoulder while listening to the sound of Corum plopping Yorik around in the water and the amplified soft footsteps he heard coming from behind them. Marz tensed, his arm tightening around his lover. "We got company," he told him mentally.

Upon hearing the flight of a dart cutting through the air, Marz dropped his glass then forcefully shoved Tristan away, knocking the dragon to his knees. The tiny projectile sliced through the sleeve of his shirt and missed cutting his skin by a hair. "DIVE CORUM!" he shouted when he heard another dart whiz toward his friend.

Catching a glimpse of a shadow behind a rock in the distance, Marz broke into a run. As he neared the area, a number of small pellet-like objects came flying at him from behind the rock. He did his best to duck out of the way, but the damn things exploded on impact with the ground, leaving small fires behind. A flame caught the cuff of Marz's pants while the wind carried a spark to his shirt, setting the material on fire instantly.

"Get that bastard!" Marz shouted before dropping to the ground and trying to smother the flames that threatened to turn him into a human inferno.

The single assassin that had followed the youths, filled his blowpipe with more poison tipped darts that would render a victim unconscious almost immediately. He would kill these three boys quickly and easily then return to help his two fellow Slayers eliminate the rest of the humans in the nearby camp of the Jann when the time was right.
