Marz tried not to gag while drinking the healer's foul tasting herbal concoction. Why didn't the man ever give out anything with a good flavor to it? The awful taste was enough to take his mind off the pain in his ribs for a while. Maybe that was the general idea.

It didn’t take long for the medicine to start working. Val must have mixed a mild sedative into the stuff because the fatigue Marz felt intensified. He yawned then made a face at the bandages wrapped around his ribcage. The mummy look was becoming a real fashion statement with him lately.

Frustration rose within him as he struggled to pull on the shirt he was handed. When Tristan rushed to aid him he smiled, remembering the dragon's earlier words of praise. Hearing his lover call him his hero made him exceedingly happy. For once, he had done something right! It was great not having Tristan pissed off, or criticizing him for a change. Of course, that was bound to change at any moment, but at least for now everything was fine between them.

Once the shirt was in place, Marz managed to pull on a pair of trousers without any assistance. He glanced at Val, who began wrapping a bandage around Tristan's wrist, and had to stifle a laugh when his lover started to protest. Save it, Tris cause it won't get you anywhere! From past experience, Marz knew that it didn't do any good to argue with the healer. The man refused to take any crap from his patients and somehow always managed to get his way.

When Val left, he turned his attention to Tristan. The dragon was showing him how easy it was to handle a sword with his left hand. Marz reached for his own blade, which someone had been nice enough to retrieve from the water. Although it felt strange in his left hand, he was eager to take a few test swings. He lowered the weapon immediately when Erlic appeared, telling them to get some sleep. His sensai was another man it didn't pay to argue with.

Marz sheathed the blade then allowed Tristan to help him to his feet and lead him to an unoccupied cave. He figured that he could probably walk without any assistance, but hell, he wasn't about to pass up any opportunity to get close to his normally distant lover! A smirk came to his face when he spotted an unconscious Justin lying a few yards away from the cave Tristan had chosen.

While the dragon went about arranging things within the enclosure, Marz slipped outside and beckoned Corum to him. "I want you to go tell those bitches in the beast's cave that they have to scrub Justin and his clothes clean or else a dragon will come to eat them!" Corum's eyes widened then he laughed before assuring Marz that he would personally see to it that the merc became stink free soon. Marz patted his best friend on the shoulder then crept back into the cave.

"This'll do all right, do you think?" Tristan asked.

After a smile and a nod, Marz slowly moved to the animal skins that made up a bed. He winced slightly as he sat down, facing the cave opening since that helped to keep his claustrophobia at bay. When Tristan sat beside him, he slipped his arms around him. He drew the dragon close, staring into his eyes while their noses touched. "I thought you should know that I love you…….in case you forgot, that is." He gave his lover a lopsided grin then met his lips in a profound kiss. Marz jerked away abruptly when he heard a noise, and found Jeremy staring at them from the opening.

"Ahhh, sorry dudes," the otherworldly youth said. "I was trying to find an empty cave to bunk in tonight. Do you guys want some company?"

Marz's eyes flashed red with anger and Tristan looked ready to lunge at the kid. "Yeah, why don’t you come closer so me and Tris can both wring your raking neck!"

Jeremy gulped then dashed away from the cave. After a deep sigh, Marz faced Tristan. "I think we need an animal skin hanging over that opening. As long as I know I'm not locked in here, I should be fine."

He cringed at the stabbing pain in his chest as he got to his feet and helped Tristan drape a large skin across the entrance. Once that was done they returned to the soft mattress of furs and decided to try and get some sleep.

Marz pulled Tristan close then drew the blanket over them. He passed out almost immediately, only to be awakened sometime later by a nightmare of his lover getting torn to shreds by the beast in the water. He bolted into a sitting position, the pain in his ribs nearly non-existent now. After wiping sweat from his brow he reached out, sighing in relief when he felt Tristan safely beside him.
