Subject: Why are we riding on vulture breakfasts???
In reply to: Corum & Yorik....and Erlic 's message, "Top gun" on 19:16:16 12/01/01 Sat

Barry sighed, a sound like dried twigs rubbing together that was quickly carried away on the wind. He'd have to help the addle-cove now. He wondered if maybe this was what he was here for, but it seemed too simple. Nah. Must be somethin' later on. Always was.

He wasn't exactly a coward in battle. No, not that. It was just that there wasn't much of him to lose and while he couldn't permanently die, that didn't mean he couldn't be killed. And he'd be the first to tell you that dying over and over and over again was none too skippy.

So it took him a while to get into the battle and by that time Corum was dive bombing a group of the vultures holding Yorik out like some skull-topped javelin. That addle-cove was barmy!!! Barry quickly flew toward one of the vultures that had veered off and bit its leg, tearing a large, bleeding chunk of flesh from the appendage. "I'm glad I can't taste you, ya berk!" He shouted at the vulture as it whapped him with its wing, sending him flying back a few feet before he could stop himself.

"You got a hell of a lotta nerve doin' that to ol' Barry! Come get some, ya overgrown chicken!" And with that he flew at the vulture with incredible velocity. But instead of slamming into it as it seemed he would, he suddenly shot straight up putting himself above the creature. "Bombs away!" he shouted as he opened his mouth and disgorged an enormous stream of wasps that flew at the vulture stinging it and tangling in its feathers. The bird screeched loudly and twisted in the air, trying to get away from the painful stings. Barry took the opportunity to slam into the thing's bald neck, his sharp teeth embedding in tough flesh. He jerked himself back and tore a hunk of the vulture's esophagus from its throat. The bird spiralled to the ground making a strange whistling sound since it was no longer able to screech.

Barry let the chunk of throat drop to the ground after it. "Let that be a lesson to ya, ya berk!" He then looked around for Corum and flew over to him just in time to see him finish off the vulture that had been sailing toward Tia. "Not bad, Chief!" he said, almost sounding like he meant it.

Corum had spotted Marz and Tristan on the ground and they headed down there to assist them. There were vultures all over the place but Barry noted that some of them were dead. Marz was leaking a little and Tristan didn't look too skippy, either, but both were still able to fight.

Barry noticed the carcass of a vulture plummeting from the sky about to slam into Tristan and he quickly flung himself at the body, knocking it off course enough to miss the injured dragon. It landed with a thud behind him.

Suddenly Barry felt himself siezed in powerful talons! A vulture had grabbed him and was flying away from the combat area. Barry cursed loudly and tried to bite at the thing but one talon was in his eye and while he might not have much flesh on him, his eyes were most definitely soft and gushy. "AAAHGH! My eye! My eye!" he screamed as the beast gripped him tighter. It would regenerate, but not instantly and it would hurt like the Mazes for a long time to come.

Barry spat scorpions along with curses but he couldn't get any to land on the vulture that was carrying him. He suddenly wished he hadn't wasted the wasps already. There was nothing for it. He shouted.

"CHIEF! CHIEF! THIS PLANES-TOUCHED BIRD HAS ME BY THE EYE!!!!!"

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Isobel held fast to her roc with her feet, hooking them tighter between the ribs of the beast as she leaned out to slash at one of the vultures with her sword. She laughed as she lopped off a wing and watched the bird plummet to the ground. But it didn't hold her attention for long, for there were more creatures to fight and she did so love fighting them.

She called to her mount to hold steady and turned to her left only to find a vulture hurtling straight for them, its beak open in a blood-curdling screech. Isobel grinned wide. "Eat this, Pollo!" she shouted as she rammed her sword directly into its open maw, shoving it deep and twisting. The huge bird fell from the sky, slipping off her sword to spiral downward and hit the ground in a hail of feathers. Isobel laughed merrily.

"Birdie birdie in the sky!" She grinned as she sliced at another vulture, but the damned bird managed to get inside her reach and she screamed in pain as its nasty beak tore a large gash in her shoulder. "Puta!" she screamed at the offending vulture and quickly pulled Muerte from its sheath as the bird continued to slash at her with its sharp beak. She plunged the stiletto into its eye and rammed it hard into the brain. "Die!" She screamed into its face, and it did.

She had turned to see if there were more vultures heading for them when her mount lurched and for a sickening moment she thought she was going to fall from her perch, but she gripped tight with her legs and grabbed hold of the roc's neck, somehow managing to keep her grip on Muerte at the same time. Once she had recovered her balance she looked back to see if Erlic was still there.

"Frio, why did the roc lurch like that?" she asked, keeping an eye out for approaching vultures.
