Well, in all actuality, considering the meager amount of education one received in the Renaissance era, superstitions and "boogie men" were still very much believed in by I would say easily 2/3 of the population. Therefore, my playing a troll was not "fantasy" in the way you would think of a dungeons and dragons game, per se, but rather "fantasy" in the way that I was trying to create the illusion of what a troll might look light in the minds of Renaissance era town and country folk. Too deep for your average public? Sure, most likely, but it also allowed me to do my job as P.M. while entertaining the crowd with eye candy.
And come on, are your jousters period? I think not! Jousting ended around the Medieval era with Elizabeth's father, Henry VIII. Very little jousting was going on by the time E. took the throne. And even if they WERE period, the armor you guys are wearing sure isn't. You'd be decked out in full regalia, locked and loaded to the point where you would barely be able to lift yourself onto a horse.
And, Paul, are those Paisely cymbals I saw up there on the second floor with those modern trap pieces, and those modern timpanis???
Yes, we all could have and can work a little harder, but the bottom line is and always was: Is the crowd walking away happily satisfied?
Of course, that raises an entirely different issue unto itself, but I don't have the time or energy for it.
I love you guys, though, even though you're a bunch of pussies. Especially Nick! Gawd! What desperate mid-life crisis did you old f**ks go through to make you want to hire him???
Wanna pick a fight with me??? Meet at the mudpit on August 16, 2003 at approx. 11:30am or so.
