Subject: A concerted effort of all Hong Kong Citizen is call for

Dear all,
I have a few facts and reflection concerning SARS to share.

The following is a new web page that has been created by World Health
Organisation to provide the public and professionals information about Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

http://www.who.int/csr/sars/en/

On 29 March 2003 it said,"As of today, a cumulative total of 1550 cases and 54
deaths have been reported from 13 countries. This represents an increase of 65
cases and one death compared with the previous day.
The number of cases in Viet Nam remained at 58 for the sixth day in a row,
indicating that the outbreak in Hanoi is well-controlled.
The largest increases occurred in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of
China, with 45 new cases, and Canada, with 8 new cases. The United States of
America reported 8 additional suspect or probable cases."

On 31 March 2003 it said,"...... two were health care workers who became
infected (with SARS) trying to revive a 72 year old man believed to have become
ill after visiting a relative with SARS in a Hong Kong hospital.
As of today, a cumulative total of 1622 cases, with 58 deaths, have been
reported from 13 countries. This represents an increase of 72 cases and 4
deaths since the last figures were compiled on Saturday.
The greatest increase in cases occurred in Hong Kong SAR. The additional deaths
were reported in Canada (1) and Hong Kong (3). Germany reported its fifth case,
and Switzerland its third."

>From the numerous articles posted therein, we can conclude a few thing:
1) WHO is taking on this outbreak seriously, and cases of SARS have been
reported to WHO from 13 different countries.
2) This pathogen has got a remark contagiousness.
3) Hong Kong has not been doing a good job in controlling the spread of the
disease as compared with other places, even Hanoi in Viet Nam has out performed
us in this respect.
4) Though WHO has been kind enough not to point the finger at Hong Kong, yet as
a matter of fact Hong Kong is exporting the disease through her airliners and
railways.

My personal reflections are:
1) As a responsible citizen of this global village Hong Kong should do her best
to contain this outbreak. This is not for the welfare of herself(Hong Kong)
alone but for the welfare of all the countries and cities on Earth.

2) The disease has aldready laid its death claws on one of my firends and I
have lost him for good. I should do my best to prevent myself from catching the
disease so that I may not be a threat to the health of my cherished love ones
around me.

3) This is not a matter of playing the chicken or playing the hero, but a
matter of responsibility in love and fairness.

4) Jn21:18 "Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded
yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out
your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to
go." Jesus reminded the quick tempered Simon Peter to learn to endure the
outwardly appearing weakness, so that love might grow strong IN him for
(1Cor13:5f)"Love does not insist on its own way". I welcome the nagging,
inconveniences and sacrifices just in case my love ones might have a saver home.

For those who find my words offending, my apology!!

Regards!

Bene Chan

Dear Bene:

Hi, Bene,
