but here is some extra thought.

You wrote "I almost think that he's going to be the one to accept Jesus with his daughter".

I don't think that Philip's atheism was shaken at all, not even a little bit -- lesser shows would have showed him being "touched" by the minister's words and even having the beginning of an epiphany --, and given the last shot, Father Tim's speech didn't give him any peace either.

He was there as Paige's father, tried to assert his authority and to protect her from what he sees as a threat (just like that perv from season 1 whom he ended up beating to a pulp!), but when he went into threat mode his enemy did not break.

Basically, he just lost when facing another Father!

Elizabeth isn't that brainwashed, but she really is a believer so she thinks the cause is worth the pain.

Philip has more and more trouble compartimentalizing things.

I did say "almost" makes me think Philip would get religion. It's the idea that he was the one in season one who proposed getting out of the spy game and running off to Canada.

And so unlike Elizabeth he has more of that doubt than she does. Which is why he thinks it doesn't hurt Elizabeth as much. So I ask.... how much difference is there between a true believer like Elizabeth and someone brainwashed into a belief of an ideology?

It is a fine line and I do agree that 'true believer' is a better term for her than brainwashed.

I'm sick.... cold, chills, headache, low-grade fever, general malaise even though I slept - fitfully - for over 12 hours last night.

I think that Elizabeth is not blind, but still believes that the Soviets are really trying to build something known as communism. It's her religion.

I even think that she kinda understands her daughter and her need for faith and for helping to make the world better for her fellow men, while Philip is more cynical and pragmatic, enjoying the day and mostly caring about his family.
