Rumplestiltskin aka "The Beast" - had taken the daughter of a king as his 'slave' (more or less). She was Belle, played by Emily De Ravin. Belle had actually chosen to go with Rumple in return for Rumple saving their town/kingdom from an ogre.

And as time went on Rumple and Belle struck up a friendship, even verging on love. And one day Rumple asked Belle chosen why she had decided to go with Rumple. And Belle told him that there wasn't much that a woman could show what they could do in terms of heroism (when she says the word heroism the scythe is prominently displayed), sacrifice, to do the brave thing and save her village. And quite often Buffy's Scythe is in the background during that scene a symbol of that heroism. And then conversation turned towards matters of love. And much like Spike did at the end of Season 7 Rumple gave Belle the chance to be free.
