Subject: Are we looking at what it was like before the floods hit or??
In reply to: Lij 's message, "Farm Airphoto Links." on Sunday, May 15, 01:19:49am

Between the snow melt flood warnings here, Manitoba's woes and the huge dilemmas in the south, it's a watery nightmare for some.

.
These are airphotos of farms that an appraiser compared to the land my mother left to me. I have a problem with the appraisal. Which is to say I don't like it - it is too high. Of course trying to talk it down to the lawyer means I am trying to reduce the fee that the lawyer gets.

What I want to lower the appraisal to means lowering his fee by $5000 alone. And I have found a mistake on the state inheritance tax form they sent me which means his fee will be lowered by about $9000 otherwise. I hope he hasn't decided on that new Cadillac after figuring up his cut of mom's estate.

I would have printed out pictures of the land but since gettting a Windows 7 computer, I do not have a compatible printer. So I wanted the probate lawyer to see them so I put the links her in one link that I wrote down. Seemed easier that way. And at the time it was, since my computer keeps wanting to freeze up. The modem seems to be the problem, it is not exactly compatible with Win7.

Though I think I will simply email them to myself now.

I was wondering about what was going on...which reminds me about my uncle and his situation. When he dies the family farm he used to run will have to be sold since none of my generation will want it. My hope is that all the money will go to my mom, since she is the one person left who has any real connection to the place, having grown up there. Not that it would be worth much to anyone outside of the immediate area anyhow since there is only one outbuilding left and no running water that's fit to drink.

.......to your uncle are his brothers and sisters then they would inherit (if he has no will). If a brother or sister had died but left children then they might get their parent's share.

I just cannot accept the land prices people want to put on our farm. Dad bought it for about $300 an acre in 1969 and the price they put on it is about 12 times that now (and that is without the house).

I hope his will leaves everything to Mom, I have one extremely pushy lawyer cousin who will make things a nightmare for all if there isany sort of ambiguity involved. We spent portions of every summer until my late teens on that farm but that side of the family never has and their father (my uncle) never contributed anything to help run it once he went into university back in the 50's.
