I have been immersed in the world of "GoT" for 15 years and have learned that there really isn't any heroes. Everyone is very human, prone to weakness and even the ones who survive their trials don't tend to emerge unscathed. It's hard to talk about a lot of this because I don't want to spoil anyone but it's fair to say that a lot of what people seemed to have expected of the show in terms of a clear division between good ( ie the Starks) and evil ( the Lannisters) will get a lot more blurred as time goes on.

Catelyn is meant to be a survivor. You could sum her character up in one word, "family" and what she does can be looked on as her attempts to keep her family safe. Eddard and Robb can be summed up with "honour" while Tyrion might be "complicated", LOL. Jon and Arya are a little harder, even after four books. One of my favorite characters doesn't show up till Book 2 and I hope she makes it into the second season since she has some interesting interactions with one of the villains of the series....who may or may not end up staying one of the great villains, we're waiting to see how things go when book 5 comes out this summer.

A lot of hooks have been baited in the episodes that have aired so far, trying to set up events for next season that cannot be fully fleshed as they are in the book. If there seem to be logic gaps or things left dangling, please know that with 807 pages in the first novel, they've done a pretty damn fine job so far.

I swear that either a nursemaid dropped him on his head or sociopaths must run in the Lannister line and skip a generation. Jaime and Cersei certainly brought a wee monster into the world when that little shite was born!

the experience is very different, anyway.

I see flaws that readers don't really notice or don't care about because for them it's all about the "adaptation" of a beloved book while for me this is just a tv show that I "assess" as such (BTW it made me wonder how I would have considered Peter Jackson's trilogy if I haven't read the LotR and hadn't been so happy to see the epic journey I knew and MY characters fleshed out on screen. It was a good adaptation, but were the films that good? Maybe not...).

On the other hands I liked the whores scene with Littlefinger's solliloquy from episode 7 while many readers hated it, arguing that it was useless in terms of plot and gratuituous, forgetting that when you haven't read the books you don't know what's going on in the character's mind, and that a tv show must find its own way to provide certain informations about them.

The scene, not only revealed things about Littlefinger's agenda and character, but also had meta-quality and it was very Richard III-like! The whores could have been less loud but the scene was cool in terms of writing...and I really like the actor (he played the Mayor of Baltimore on The Wire!).

As for the actor playing Frey I must have seen him in something else. He's British, so he must have played in many English films...

Book Tyrion went to battle, tv Tyrion didn't. Book Shae is younger and less mysterious than tv Shae. Oh well.

Petyr needed that speech, just like Varys needed his talks with Eddard. Purists will complain but within the constraints of a tv script , further actions by those characters would end up being bizarre and it would do the purist fans a world of good to relax and enjoy the fact the books havebeen able to reach a new audience, something that may help nudge the author to actually finish the series off!!!
