The main thing I think Clinton had to offer in terms of world events was his personal ability to "get along" with folks and do a pretty good job of helping them get along with each other. It might have seemed like a good old boy way of functioning, but it worked. He wasn't perfect and some things (like a peace accord in the Palestinian/Israeli mess) didn't occur....but folks were at least talking when he was around...not bombing. In a calculated folksy way, he got folks to at least cut it out and have a chat. World diplomacy will never be a finished product...it's a process and he was very good at facilitating it.
