- Kidney Stones -- Franklin D. Murphy (Curious), 12:59:50 05/06/13 Mon
I have had trouble with kidney stones and urinary tract infections, and I was probably exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam in 1967 because we flew out of base camp in Tua Hoa to 10 differentnt locations in S. Vietnam during my year there. Had lithotripsy to break up stones in 2005 and 2007 and was hospitalized with UTI in 2000, and in 2011 UTI pushed my temp up to 107 (yeah, WOW) before I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated, with urinary backup causing me to wear a catheter for severals days. Going to Gainesville VA Hospital on May 17, 2013 for the the Agent Orange Registry Exam. Sorry to hear on this website that VA doesn't connect these problems with Agent Orange exposure. More than 600,000 have take the Agent Orange Resgistry Exam, and if they keep asking about a kidney stones or UTI connections, maybe VA policies will change. They have after other studies were completed. Would appreciate any advice/comments.

- hepatitis c -- arthur j fryer, 08:45:52 04/10/13 Wed
I am currently trying to start a hepatitis c support group for all veterans with the disease from any branch and era served.
In dec 1978 while stationed with the 1st Bn 39th mechanized infantry 8th infantry division Baumholder Germany we were given a flu shot live vaccine by air gun and needle.
After the flu shot was done the unit had a hepatitis outbreak and was quarantined for a period of time.
I eneded up getting the flu the same day with a temp of 104.6 and was given a IV which was already used on someone else. I was patient number 52 and at least 30 others came in after me.
When I went to Charlie company to get the flu shot I wentr with roy, red, cagola and little rock and roy was the third guy in front of me.
I have made contact with roy and he told me he had hepatitis at the time he got the flu shot and they used a needle instead of airgun which stoped working.
The medics took the needle and put it in the veil with the liver flu and one after another gave us the shot with the same needle.
I have found 2 others besides myself from my company bravo who have hep c and 4 others from the unit in other companys.
The medics broke into the safe that contained the narcotics which were designated for war time and used needles to extract the narcotics and shared with each other and one medic died of drug overdose and was found to have the virus in his blood.
During this time hep c was known as non A and non B hepatitis since it was not discovered till 1989 and not tested for till 1992.
The support group for veterans to help each other with the disease and maybe help in time prove to the va like agent orange that veterans did get hep c through airgun innoculations.
I am aslo looking for Dwight attaway who was in bravo and a Vietnam vet who I last saw in ft McClellan Alabama.
I would love for others who were in the 39th during this time to contact me at arthurfryer2beking or my home phone 352-503-2569 and please leave a message since I am not home between 10am to 8pm and I will get back with you.
all veterans from the 39th infantry any company in the unit that have hep c and all others veterans who have it please contact me so we can get this support group going and help each other get service connection or at the very least the needed medical attention needed.
God bless to you all.

Specifically, I need verfication that the area around the ops building and antenna field were free of vegetationand were routinely sprayed. Second, I need verification that my flights to and from Thailand landed in Vietnam and that soldiers in fatigues got on the plane on the return flight. These soldiers had obviously just returned from the field. I don't have specific flight numbersers, etc. but I need someone to verify that flights routinely stopped in Vietnam on the way to and from Thailand.

- New Book about the search for a POW (Korea) -- Joe Carvalko, 11:41:19 03/25/13 Mon
Recently We Were Beautiful Once, Chapters from a Cold War, a Novel, (Sunbury Press, Feb. 2013), was released. As indicated below, the story, inspired by true events, is about the search for a certain POW in Korea, and more to the point how PTSD affects some men for their entire lives. It can be found at: http://www.amazon.com/We-Were-Beautiful-Once-ebook/dp/B00BH1L8IY/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1361354128&sr=1-4&keywords=carvalko
We Were Beautiful Once is a psychologically complex courtroom novel that builds an intriguing web of events, creating a sustained sense of anticipation from chapter to chapter in the mold of John Grisham’s The Pelican Brief, where trial lawyer Nick Castalano tries to uncover the fate of Roger Girardin, MIA during the Korean War, and discovers he may have been murdered in a POW camp. Before the war, Jack O'Conner, Hamilton, Girardin and Julie, Girardin's girlfriend and Jack's sister, hung out. In part the story follows the lives of the survivors, who after the war, with Roger's disappearance and Jack and Trent having spent years in a North Korean hell-hole, change dramatically, notably Jack goes through life a victim of PTSD, teetering on the edge of insanity (believing he may have killed Girardin) and that his murderous act will be discovered by his sister, who waits her entire life for Roger’s return.
Josip Novakovich wrote: “Carvalko has written a wonderful military mystery novel, with great authentic details and deep psychological insights--a thrilling trip into our past.” Novakovich is a current nominee for the Man Booker International Prize 2013, Whiting Writers' Award recipient and bestselling author of April Fool’s Day, Yolk, Salvation and Other Disasters, Infidelities: Stories of War and Lust.
Da Chen wrote: “Carvalko writes with such convincing realism and lyricism that I was at once brought into the landscape of his literary vision and grip of his storytelling. His prose is wiry and wise, steely yet soulful. His tales are tethered to real life, lived and thoroughly pondered. In right light, he is a cross between James Patterson and Scott Turow, only wiser and much more generous.” Chen is New York Times bestselling author of Colors of the Mountain, a memoir, Brothers, a novel, and My Last Empress, a novel.
Bio
Joseph Carvalko is an American writer, lawyer born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The novel, We Were Beautiful Once, Chapters from a Cold War was inspired by a case he tried in Federal Court to locate a Korean War POW. A 2004 documentary "Missing, Presumed Dead: The Search for America's POWs" narrated by Ed Asner details his trial efforts. In addition to numerous professional and academic writing, other of his publications include: The Techno-Human Shell-A Jump in the Evolutionary Gap (2012), which details the rapid rise in cyborg-like technology; A Road Once Traveled, Life from All Sides (2007); and A Deadly Fog (2004). In 2012, he was one of two finalists for the 2012 Red Mountain Press Prize for Poetry, for The Interior, A Memoir; and one of three finalists for the 2012 Esurance Poetry prize, for his poem The Road Home. He is a veteran of the 307th Bomb Wing ('59-'64) When he is not writing, he plays jazz piano. He, his wife Susie and four cats live between the Connecticut and Florida coastal areas.

- Searching For Vietnam Veteran Father -- Shane Roberson, 18:29:53 03/16/13 Sat
Hi, my name is Shane Roberson and I am searching for my biological Vietnam Veteran Father and or any family members of his. My father does not know that I exist. My father was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington in 1968 into 1969 before he was deployed to Vietnam. We have very little information about him but the information we do have is as follows: His first name was James (Jim) with last name being pronounced Minick or Munich we believe. We were told that he was an officer (2nd Lieutenant) and for part of the time he was stationed at Ft. Lewis he lived or stayed off base in two different apartments that we know of. The first one we know of was off of South Tacoma Way and 90th street. The second apartment we were told was in Lakewood. My mother used to work at the PX on Ft. Lewis fitting soldiers for military uniforms and selling military emblems and brass. My mother’s roommate at the time was Chris Newcom who was a German resident here in the United States working for the PX. My mother and her roommate had lived in a brick apartment off of Pacific Avenue. My father is believed to have been born in 1945, 1946 or 1947 we were told. My mother was told by my father that his parents did not speak English. It is believed that his family was of German decent. My father had been told by my mother that she was pregnant, and a brief meeting was held between my mother, her step father, my father and the military on Ft. Lewis. At the meeting they decided not to do any financial support other than the cost of my birth. Prior to him leaving for Vietnam half the cost of a birth was paid to my mother and the remainder of the cost of the birth had been sent to her from someone he knew stateside after his departure to Vietnam. My mother and father had no further personal contact after his deployment to Vietnam. My mother’s name at the time she knew my father and worked at the PX was Patricia A. Roberson. Please take the time to like and share my story, I would very much like to find my father, any and all siblings and any relatives I have. Dad, you have 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren! Looking forward to the day I get to hopefully meet you.

- good health statement required to return home -- Brent Mitchell (puzzled), 12:45:26 03/12/13 Tue
Hello, In March of 1966, I was processed out of Vietnam at Tan Son Nhut after serving a year with the 1st Infantry. At the time I was ill and had been for some time. A form was presented to me for my required signature that I was free of illness. After asking what would happen if I didn't sign, I was informed I was to remain in Vietnam until well.
Since I wasn't getting well, I had no intention of remaining there with improper care any longer, so signed the form , and was not provided a copy. A few years ago when living in Iowa, I gave an agent orange physical to VA
in Iowa City. I mentioned to them about the form I signed.
Reluctantly, he said a few were at that time were required to sign that form, however the letters were pulled and destroyed so that no evidence would exit that anyone was denied an opportunity to report anything for the record. This effectively prevents me or anyone from claiming compensation or disability. I would appreciate any info corncerning this experience. Thank you. Brent

- Seeking Professional Service -- Flo (Very frustrated), 11:03:25 02/06/11 Sun
My husband can’t help himself. That why I am here as his surviving spouse. My husband was a former Marine in 1965-1969. He committed suicide in October of 1973. I have been seeking survivors benefit from the VA through the years, all to no result. In my opinion, my husband committed suicide as a direct result of his service in Vietnam. I have medical records to show that while in country, my husband was hit in the mouth with a butt of a rifle, and I assumed this was in combat. Once my husband returned to civilian life, he has had many problems. Some in service that I notice, but didn’t pay to much attention too. These problems led to him taking his own life. I have multitude of records that shows my husband was suffering from something once he returned from Vietnam. He was an entirely different person upon his return. My husband’s employer (Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.) kept a paper trial indicating instances where my husband just went off the charts in dealing with those he worked with each day “before” he ended his life. My husband quit his job twice. The first time, I was able to have them put on sick leave, providing he get some help for his issues. The second time he quit it was a done deal at that time, my husband was only 27 years old. The VA Medical Center, Brecksville, Oh, from 4/17/1973-5/03/1973, where he was a patient was reviewed and considered. The final diagnoses were anxiety neurosis and paranoid personality. The VA responded. “It would require to resort to speculation to conclude the veteran had post-traumatic stress disorder. It would further require to resort to speculation to conclude that the claimed post-traumatic stress disorder was the direct and proximate cause of the veteran’ suicide. Therefore, the evidence you submit must relate to this fact.” What I gather from the VA. I need a psychiatrist or a psychologist to review and to evaluate his records that I have. I am having a hard time finding someone to do that for me. My back is against the wall. I need some help with this one. Does anyone have any ideas?

- AGENT ORANGE/COLON CANCER -- Karen Butler, 14:14:54 01/03/08 Thu
I have noticed that some veterans have or had colon cancer and served in Viet Nam. My husband served in Bien Hoa in 1966-1967 and came home in 1968. Bien Hoa was the heaviest sprayed area and being there was an air base close by (that stored Agent Orange), there was a major spill in Bien Hoa. (the air base was in Bien Hoa). My husband died in 1996 and I have never stopped sending claims to the Government, just sent another one, advised by my Congressman and the head of VA claims. Who knows, maybe one day the government will admit that my husband died as a result of serving in Viet Nam. I'll keep trying until I die. I was married almost 30 years and have been a widow for 11 years. So if there is a list out there of Veterans who have had colon cancer or has colon cancer, and served in Viet Nam (during 1966-1968) please e-mail me your names, I want to supply as many names as I can. Thanks Karen

- Agent Orange- My Dad survived the war, in 1970 but its killing him now in 2012 -- Amy, 20:25:00 12/14/12 Fri
Hi All,
First.. Thank You for for your service...
I am looking for anyone else in a similar situation.. my Dad served in Vietnam, made it home safe.. Long story short, he suffers incredibly- mentally and physically every day. His favorite thing used to be playing golf, for the past seven years he can't hold a golf club because of his arthritic hands.. even if he could, one swing and he could dislocate his shoulder... He can't do anything- although... he still musters up enough strength to march in the memorial day parade every year. Its amazing. The Legion offers him a car, and he says, I will walk- doesn't matter how much pain hes in, how many pills he has to take to finish, he always does.. amazing..
So back to my story- he is a disabled veteran, he gets benefits... i don't have to get into how awful his PTSD is and how his body is in terrible shape- you all know this. You are prob living it... Why? Why did this happen? Whats this, "lie lie until they die" crap I'm hearing? I am so beyond pissed off- I want to do something about this. My dad, as unlucky as he is, is lucky enough to get benefits. There are so many families that get nothing! Why? I want to tell thier story and make gov't pay for what they did. Im so pissed off, that my dad won't get to see my daughter grow up. We are waiting on results now for Multiple Myloma- and Hep C.. his blood protien levels are sky high.. body scan next week. this is all just crazy... I want to help the families that are getting denied benefits. Anyone else who is game, email me at akc1213@gmail.com
I'm fired up and ready to call attention to this. I look forward to your support, and again, thank you for your service.

- Looking for... ANY ....Ton Son Nhut A.B. Crash Rescue Fire Station Crew members or CES Members ( 1972 - 1972 ) + - 2 Years -- Jesse James ( J.J. ) Bell (COOL MO DEE ( Happy) Fochissel on the Diszzel), 11:59:52 08/16/10 Mon
First of all I like to say Hello to all the Vietnam Vets ! From the Marines, Army, US Navy, USAF, Merchant Marines,CIA,& to all others that served for that cause !
I'm J. J. Bell, Black Kansas born Soul Man! Joined the USAF in 1969 Sep 3708 MBTS, Flight 1410 T.Sgt Batella Hispiaic or Phillipino. That man was a the neatest man sorta had Robot manuvers marching making turns!
Pressed Starched fatiuges and was Precision all the way! Military creases that could cut ya ! And Staff Sgt. Johnson ( Black) who put the C in Cool and I believed retired after that stint as a Drill Sgt.
One mention to our first Asst Drill Sgt. He was white can't remember his name but he was removed because he was a bit on the mean side! Must of been a Marine D.I. before he joined the Air Force because he was tough as nails and cut you no slack ! I salute you where ever you're at !!!
Well in Feb 72 we landed at Cam Run Bay on a Boeing 707 charter. We had to land at Diego Garcia because of Engine problem and my Military and Vietnam experince would have never happen but we fixed it and was off to Nam !
Once there we where loaded on a Army Green bus and off the road we went on a scary bus ride down to different bases along the way dropping off passengers and picking up as we went along to Ton Son Nhut AB!
I was 19 like most Vietnam vets and went through the in processing like we all had to do! I was met by my sponser a dark skin brother ( black guy) his name was Sgt. Jones
( Jonesman )!
He was the hustler of the squadron ( 377 CES )could find you anything you wanted !
All nubies supposed to go through 2 weeks of Vietnam orientation before going off base downtown Saigon! Jones was from the Dirty South I think ?
Well Jones got me processed in and down town Saigon my first day in Vietnam ! LOL what a blast I had with my welcome to Vietnam Party! Thank you Jones. That was one Cool Ass Brother Never duplicated but often imitated ! Some Special Dapp to ya !
He and all the Fireman that served on A shift and B shift I would like to find ! The crash station was across the ramp from the C-47 Snoopy's ! And to the left of a taxi way was the flying Boxcars C-119 Shadows.
Across from the Fire Station and behind the C-47's was the fortified Arched Revetment hangers with the F4C!
Photo Recon they would fly through the target areas before and after snapping pictures at Supersonic speeds and return the pictures to intell !
We had almost every aircraft on that base C-123, C-130, CIA Birds, F-4, A1E; B-57, OV10 Bronco /OV-11, Sky Raiders, F-100,Helos, and every cilivian aircraft from 707,737,747,DC10,L1011, kc135, C-141, C-7 Caribo c131 Ch54,C-5a Gallexy and many many more from the supporting countries of the Vietnam war!
With planes taking off and landing every 15 to 20 seconds we where busier that Chicago O'Hare Air Port at that time!
Don't and can't forget the Air Vac Flights C-9 and the C-141 at 0445 AM !
Loading up the injuried on strechers and the walking wounded, and the Siliver Bullets, yes the sealed coffins returning to their home town for their last ride home to their families!
We also had the Army's Macvey Anex and a Army Hilo base with Cobras and Huey's and other choppers as well!
We had many alarms for battle damage air craft that where all shot up, I recall the Vietnamese A1E Ski Raiders would always come back shot up!
The big explosion of Napalm after lighting hit it! The Grass Fires, The Helio Pad Chopper Crash! The Flat bed truck full Drop Flares caught on fire that was one hell of a fire!
I remember all the Hot Brake Fires we responded to. Also remembering the Wheel fire on the C 119 Box Car that we had to be careful on because of the brillium in the wheel or the breaks!
The Trailer fire where we found the Full Bird Col. dead !
Also rembering all the Full Spills on them dang C-130's....All the time! The sun beats down on wings and the fuel tank heats and contracts and out comes the overflow!
And always during dinner time or lunch time, ask any Fire Fighter in the World tring to enjoy Breakfast,Lunch or Dinner !!!! LOL
Soon as you sit down to eat off goes the Alarm !
Also not to forget the Food service guys Vietnam and state side! The USAF Cooks that took care of feeding us and one in particular Sgt. Williy Williams ( Big Boy ) ( Black Brother from LA,CA )station at Malmstrom AFB, MT he was our Fire Station Cook!
I salute all the Fire House Cooks Military and Non Military !
One guy Sgt. Lambert White guy from St.Luis the Fire Fighter that drove 18 Wheeler Water Tanker truck to re-service the crash trucks fighting a big crash fire!
He could back that thing up on a dime, he was cool as winter he gave me some great training on that Tanker and I used that skill when I joined the Navy and became a Plane Captain! He may have drove 18 wheelers after the Air Force ??
Also trying to find ( SP ) Dog Handler Security Police Airman Taylor from Tyler Texas ( Black Guy ) small in stature 5'6" ! He spoke seven different languages and spoke fluent Vietnamese! May be a Cop in TX now ??
There was one Staff Sgt. White guy that had done 5 to 6 straight tours of duty in country!
He was a Crew chief on one of the Crash trucks another cool guy that loved Vietnam, some thought he was crazy staying in country so long!
No one knew his story why but all we know is he was one cool ass Staff Sgt! Can't remember his name but everyone knew his story of 7 tours of duty before they made him return to the states!
We had a Black Station Captain he was a Chief Master Sgt. he was like the father figure and never lost his cool another good soul and I wished I could remember his name but he was a great Station Captain / Chief !
And then the other Brother my age Airman Redux I think he was from Louisiana he was a nice guy and we had lots of fun off hours and in the Hooch ( Barracks area ) and the Airman's Club !!!!!! Oh yes the Airman's club!
That was one hell of a great place to keep you on base, but we all had to go down town to ( Soul Alley and Plantation Road )! Hey I didn't name them but it sure sounds like a black thing ! LOL
One mention to the cutie French Vietnamese Girl name( Awn )! Girl where are you at! Our Picture is still on my wall !
To see some pictures of me in the Air Force and Navy days Also me and Awn go to and Cut and Paste my FACE BOOK address !
If it's not published please write me at ( BLKACE1@aol.com ) or write to the web master for the address( http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1221166093 )
If anyone thinks they know any of the people in this letter please tell them about this post and or give them my address Please!
If they are no longer here Please write me I would like to know their family members because they will always be in my heart !!!!
Or if you where in country Fire Fighter at any other Crash Rescue Air Force Fire Fighter I'd like to be friends with you as well!
One more thing Oct 71 Ton Son Nhut got attacked (3.) MK122 Rockets and a small ground attack!
I was off Shift and there where some Crazy ass Guys in the barracks that was not taking cover and climbing the Blast walls hollering at the APC that where zipping around the base to secure areas! Any of you guys remember that ?
Seams that after 911 all the Fire Fighter got this big boost in love but us that where Military Fire Fighter never seen that love even in Vietnam! Hell my family didn't seam to know what I did while in the AF. LOL
One mention of an Army award I never got! I was pulling fire guard on a Rocket Storage area that was over grown with elephant grass! The Army was dumping disel fuel on the perimeter !
Well the wind picked up and the fire jumped the birmm and all hell broke a lose and started burning it's way tworads the Rockets which I had to drive the truck to each area and fight the fires trying to engulf the rockets
Well after some intense Fire Fighting I got the fires out!At this point in time the Air Force had turned the controll of many of the base functions to the Vietnames Air Focre and the crew was not up to speed on the fire fighting so I did most the hustling!
Well this Army Captian took my name down and told me I was being put up for a medel.... Well I never got it and but I knew I saved the day that could have went very wrong like that rocket fired off a parked jet on the USS Enterprise!
But this would have been a very bad time if that fire had gotten to them Rockets! Over 30 stored in their racks!
Oh well !
Well I send my love to all that served USAF Fire Fighters / Crash Rescue and don't forget Pedro Crews and the Pilots of that Husky Egg Beater Helio Rescue Chopper !
Love to you all!
Jesse James Bell Sgt.USAF / PR1 USN Retired 1993

WANTED : SOLDIER RIDEOUT
Present during the war of the VietnamWar in 1967-1968
AS the continuation of 3 tests DNA realized by FAMILY TREE DNA ("Finder Family", “YDNA36" & “YDNA67"), my research of biological paternity itself precise.
A name of family clearly go out with 65 exactly similar markers to my 67markers on a close genetic distance :
- RIDEOUT
I’m amérasien by my father of american origin (situated to the east to the Tennessee, Kentucky, south of the western Virginia) but with based ancestors in Celtic countries (Europe of the North)
I’m born to Saigon the 07.07.1968 (district of “Bien Hoa”) repatriated to orphanage of Phu My of which I left in 12,1970 to be adopted in France.
The research of biological father is not an end in is. Find, discover & divide with his biological family most possible closest is a truth treasure (pleasant or not)
Today, I communicate with my cousins of 2e generations. (Rear same grandfather)
We are all simply only the “avatars” of our ancestors.
Our DNA is a tremendous library that contains all the history of our fathers of a distance that surpasses our imaginary one.
Thank you for your attention, of your comprehension and … of your eventual assistance.

- Agent Orange/Prostate Cancer -- Lloyd Caldwell (Need Help), 08:10:13 10/04/12 Thu
I was a US Navy Corpsman stationed on the USS Hancock CVA 19 during 1964-1965. I made several trips from ship to Tana Son Nhut Air Base aboard the "Cod" which made daily trips for some supplies, mail, pickup personal, etc. I need proof of boots on the ground for the VA before they will grant benifits due to my exposer to Agent Orange which gave me Prostate Cancer. I'm looking for anyone who would be willing to verify that I had boots on the ground. Most if not all of the friends I knew have passed on. I thank you for any help you are willing to give

- 541st transportation company -- Louise Jett, 08:37:28 10/05/12 Fri
My husband Oscar Jett was assigned to the 541st Transportation Company while in Vietnam '68-'69. He had began a claim for PTSD and Ischemic heart disease (agent orange related) Nov. 2010, but had a stroke before the claims division did their interview and he was unable to communicate fully with them. He died July 2011 with heart attack. I have been continuing his claim but need help to prove whatever happened in Vietnam that made him the way he was. I need this not only for his claim, but so that our son and I can come to terms with what we lived with from this good man we loved so much. We don't care how bad or shocking the stories are, nothing anyone could say would tarnish our memory of him, we just need to know in order to understand. If you remember anything about him or about the 541st please tell us.

- Information needed to support Agent Orange claim for V.A. -- Mary E Moore (frustrated detective), 06:07:25 10/01/12 Mon
Seeking information to support my husband's V.A. claim for Agent Orange disability. My husband was on board the USS St. Paul in 1966 of the coast of Viet Nam. I need to know how close to shore the ship was anchored. My husband and fellow crew members states that the St. Paul was much closer to shore which exposed these guys to Agent Orange and they also got burned but Napalm that was being sprayed while the guys were on the deck of ship. I just need more help with backing up his claim.

- Type II diabetes and chronic kidney disease -- william l. hull, 12:57:19 09/02/11 Fri
I have Type II diabetes and have been receiving VA disability since about 2001. I have recently been also diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, Stage 3. I have applied for an increased disability rating, but have been denied. I have engaged a lawyer on a contingent fee basis to help me with my claim since I feel "CKD" is a direct complication arising from long-term diabetes. I am wondering if anyone else has had any success in obtaining additional disability.
I was stationed at Dong Ba Thin (near Cam Ranh Bay) in 1970.

- Widow needs proof for VA claim -- Mary Kay, 20:36:02 09/05/12 Wed
My husband, Richard W Stickroth, died of lung cancer in 2009. Lung cancer is a "presumptive illness" from AO. I have filed for DIC benefits from the VA. They are asking for proof of his being on-ground in Vietnam.
I have some, but I'm not sure all, of his DD214's. He re-enlisted in the Army at Ft. Lewis in Washington state on April 23, 1962. On line 12 of his DD214 from April 22, 1962, it says "Co. C, 1st BG 12th Inf. 4th Inf Div Ft Lewis, Wash." Sometime between 1962 and 1968, I believe he was in Vietnam. He was discharged from Ft. Polk, Louisiana in 1968. At Ft. Polk, he was a Drill Instructor. He often mentioned he worried about the recruits he trained, whether they made it back or not. He said he taught them from everything he had learned while in VN, but worried he may have omitted something that would have caused a soldier to get killed. On line 12 of his DD214 from Ft. Polk, it says "Co E 3d Bn Fifth AIT Bde 4th US Army."
Questions:
1. On his last DD214, when he retired, among the awards listed in block 13, are "Republic of Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal..." Do you know if these are proof of his being on-ground in VN to get VA benefits?
2. In an earlier post, someone recommended getting pay records. Where would I get those?
3. Is anyone on this forum familiar with Richard, possible having served in VN with him?
4. I believe I am missing a DD214 between 1962 and 1968. How can I be sure I have all his DD214's?
We were married 15 years after he retired from his 25 yr. military career. A few things he told me about being over there are a) he was in the Military Assistance Command. He taught S. Vietnamese soldiers how to recognize VC mines hidden in debris floating down rivers. b) at 3 different times, he was in different Huey helicopters that crashed c) he was a platoon sergeant and he was older than most of the enlisted soldiers over there (he was born in 1940,) d) while in the Army he was deployed twice and e) he said he was in the Special Forces, but I don't know at what time in his Army career this was. And if he told me where his locations were in VN, I don't remember.
When he was diagnosed with lung cancer, I wish we had talked about all these things. But at the time, I guess we didn't think it was necessary.
Thank you, Vets, for what you endured over there. And thank you for any information you can provide.

- Can you help me prove I was in Vietnam? -- Gary Ater, 06:09:43 07/12/11 Tue
I filed an Agent Orange claim last October and it is still in development because they can't find proof I was in Vietnam. I was stationed in Samae San in Tailand in 1969 and 1970. I was a Petroleum Specialist and would go to Vietnam for 1-2 weeks at a time to relieve soldiers going on R & R. They tell me if I can find anyone who remembers me from that time period and knows I was in Vietnam, they would be able to process my claim. All the records they have been able to find so far do not show I was in Vietnam, even though I was. Thanks for any help you can give me.

- need inforomation -- gisham (sad), 16:54:00 08/05/12 Sun
I am not sure if I have the appropriate place to ask this question, but I have to start somewhere. My ex husband is a Viet Nam vet. We have been divorced many years but we recently made contact with each other and we are developing a frieindship again after all the years. Sadly he is suffering from dementia which is probably related to PSTD. Regardless, he is in the early stages and I want to give something meaningful. Many years ago he explained to me that Viet Nam, although an awful experience for him, was also the most meaningful experience of his life. He was very proud of being airborne and I want to get him a little memento from his unit. Unfortunately, I don't know if he was 82nd or 101st anymore. I just can't remember. Is there a way I can find this out without asking him. Thanks for any help you can provide. God Bless all of you who served in Nam.

- Death by Agent Orange exposier. -- Mrs. Mimi Paramo (veteran's widow) (widow wants to have a law suit with VA), 03:26:43 08/03/12 Fri
My husband served 2 terms in Vietnam. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 - 1969 in vietnam. As he was honorable disharged from the service, I knew he had Agent Orange. His eye sight became worse, loosing teeth, diebetis, headaches in back of his neck (which I mentioned to VA MD's) ofcourse egnored. In November of 2010 he started getting sicker and sicker. Than on February 17, 2011, that's when everything started.
1. Colon bleeding
2. R speech impairment (due to L brain cancer)
3. R lung cancer
4. L lung cancer
5. Lost leg strength of cancer
6. Lost nervous system and memory
By September 29 th, he was diagnozed with terminal cancer stage 4. All these years I told MD's at the VA he has Agent Orange. All the time they tell me: 'Well we can't determine that'! My husband passed away February 24/2012.
I am so angry with the Government!! You can't imagine! I am lookinhg into a law suit. Where can I get help? It won't bring him back, but the Government needs to know and all these years.......I am only receiving $1,195.00 a month? Paul returned into the ARNG.All together he served 9 years. All this doesn't mean a damm thing!!
Mimi Paramo,wife.
The Doctor at VAER said: 'They can sent these guys over there, but they can't do a damm thing for them'!

- Al Quick and/or Lake LaDonna 4th of July Veteran Celebrations, Early-Eighties? -- Ben Quick (I'll be in Sauk Valley next week. Please help.), 03:14:12 06/27/12 Wed
Does anyone remember the number of disabled children at Lake LaDonna? My mother recalls many. I would love to hear some more stories an locate the contact info of the former owner. I see it's changed hands.
Does anyone remember a squad leader named Al Quick from Rock Falls--2/14, 25th Inf until the 25th left after Cambodia and then 1/5, 1st Air Cav until Feb 71. He's my dad. I would be incredibly grateful for any information.
Names on the back of photos from basic in Ft. Polk include Joe Dalton, Mel Pickett, Jerry McGee, Dick Powell, Clyde Rennie, Ken Hankinson, and Russ Mathiac.
I had the good fortune to spend the summer of 2008 journeying through Vietnam alone and tracing my father's steps. The Vietnamese people welcomed we like a long-lost uncle. The countryside was the most beautiful place I've ever seen. I'm writing a book about my dad, myself, and other children born with congenital deformities--particularly those the VA has thus-forth refused to acknowledge AO related conditions transmitted paternally, by veteran fathers. I would love to hear from anyone with stories to share. When my father came back, he had a chloracne rash that didn't go away until I was two, five years after his return. I was born with syndactyly, first-degree hypospadias, and mild scoliosis--genetic disorders linked to dioxin.
Stories, names, anecdotes, contacts, leads, shared frustration: I'd be more than grateful for any or all.
I'll be in Dixon over the 4th if anyone wants to meet up.
Cheers,
Ben

In December 1974, I was verbally ordered to support a military unit (which I now believe was the US Army Element, US Support Activities Group/7th Air Force) located at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base (NKPRTAFB or simply "NKP"). 7th Air Force, all of its subordinate detachments and operating locations inactivated effective 30 June 1975. According to the data record card for the US Army Element, US Support Activities Group/7th Air Force, the unit remained active until at least 9 July 1976. I left Thailand and returned to Okinawa in May 1976.
Because the US Army Element, US Support Activities Group/7th Air Force was a provisional unit, it did not leave a paper trail. The inactivation order states that personnel would be reassigned per special instructions from CINCPACAF/DP and organizational records were disposed of per AFM 12-50. My field 201 file, OMPF, medical and dental records, and my pay records do not show my being sent to Thailand. Ditto for buddy statements and/or photographs (unless, of course, someone in this forum steps forward).
How can I prove my presence in Thailand or that my unit performed missions in Cambodia, Laos, as well as North and South Vietnam? I need this information in order to convince VA that I'm entitled to more disability compensation.
Please direct replies to charleymetcalf@mindspring.com.

- Enchondroma of right shoulder -- Rich (Sad), 10:54:15 04/09/12 Mon
I was in Nam in 1967 to 1968 as a "Medic" cook...I was also exposed to Agent Orange. My right shoulder has been very painful...I went to my Orthopedic Dr who took MRI, x-rays. I was found to have a large lesion which represents soft tissue sarcoma. I was refered to an Oncologist for treatment. My question is am I entitled to compensation, for this service injury, I have been retired for 3 years.

This is a long shot. I was a crane operator with the 557LE Engineers attached to the 31st at FSB Margaret. I was refueling some tanks one morning and fell from the crane onto the tire, on my back, and then the ground. I was bleeding internally so saw the medic from the 31st. as we did not have one. Nothing was done and I was kept back from duty for three days until the bleeding stopped. I am now filling a claim as I have had back issues ever since and am permanently disabled. If you were that medic, PLEASE write me. Thanks, Dave

- Vietnam Vets that didn't put in claim untill 2006 -11 -- Roger P Lemke ("Roger P" Fustrated), 12:15:41 09/20/11 Tue
I searved in Nam from Feb/66 to Apr/67. In May 1981 I had a MI, in 1984 had a 4/Bypass,and 2 more bypasses since then, also a defib/pase-maker. In July 1987 went on SS Disability. I didn't file a claim because I didn't know I could. On Oct 16, 2006, I filed for Diabetis Type II, CHD, and a few others, also IUTD. I Disagreed with the award date. (The retro compensation was great but I could have made a lot more pay if I was able to work till retirement).
In Dec 16, 2010 was awarded 100% Disability, retroactive only back to Oct 2006. I sent in a NOD and am in the process of doing the paperwork.
My question is: How many VietNam Vets out their, didn't even know to file when they came down with on of the diseases that the VA had on the list? (Untill now since it came out in the open with the 3 new disease which were put on the list). If it wasn't for my brother-in-law, I wouldn't have known anything about submitting a claim for CHD (IHS) and Diabetes II.
The VA is stating that if you didn't file then, you can only get compensation retroactive to the date you filed. They (VA) use the "Nehmer v. USAVA as their reasning. I feel I am being penalize because I didn't file back in July 1987, or even in 1981 for the MI
If their are any Viet Nam Vets with or had the same problem, please send me a E-mail rogeroa@roadrunner.com. The more Vet's we have the better chance we have of getting better results. I just want what is due me after all I have gone through (Heart problems and lost wages).

- Contact with family of Larry Dee Brock who was my roomate in OCS in 1968 -- Bob (Sam) Brucker, 20:41:36 01/25/12 Wed
I recently read a poem in Winter 2010 edition of "VietNow". The magazine had been around my apartment for quite a while and I was getting ready to throw it out, but first I decided to take a quick look at some of the articles. I noticed one writing entitled: "You Were My Son", but it was late and I wasn't sure if I was up to the task of reading this undoubtably sad poem. Somethimg told me that I should read this poem ; and it was very moving to me , especially considering that my only son recently became the father of his own son. At some point while reading, I glanced down to the bottom of page and noticed the name Larry Dee Brock - my former roomate and friend from OCS at Ft.Benning. I finished reading the poem with tears in my eyes. I knew Larry had been killed in VN and I knew Larry was a great guy but now hearing(reading)his mother talk(write)about him was so very moving. I also felt some guilt because , even though years ago I made an etching of Larry's name at the VN Memorial wall in Washington, I never tried to contact Larry's family. Well, that's what I'm trying to do now. I would like to say hello to Larry's mother, his daughter, his former wife or any other relative or friend, and offer my much belated condolences; and perhaps tell one or two stories about LARRY DEE.

- VA Health Compensation Claioms -- Reginald Burgess, 04:57:54 04/26/11 Tue
I was in Vietnam in 1967-68 and understand that my type 2 diabetes might be considered a presumptive illness due to agent orange exposure (at MACV near Ton Son Nuht in III Corp area). Also, I have recently been diagnosed with polymyositis and am currently in treatment for it. Polymyositis is a rare autoimmune disorder that severely weakened and damaged all of my core muscles. Some autoimmune illnesses have been linked to agent orange exposure, so I'm wondering if anybody else been diagnosed with this illness and filed a claim with the VA?
Thanks

Although I did not get non hodgekins lymphoma while I was stationed at MAG-15 MARS-15 in Iwakuni 1969, I did contract chloracne, diabetes (Milletus II), tingling in my hands and feet, and several malignant tumors were taken off my back, due to washing and servicing the TD-16's TD-18's buldozer Tractors, and earth scrapers that were used to clear fire base camps, and helipads in Vietnam that were covered in agent orange filled mud that was dried hard on the equipment.
Thank you for serving sgt. and semper fi.

Hey sgt. Borges,
I have been hoping someone from there would post.
I was stationed at MAG-15, MAC-15, MAR-15 Iwakuni, Japan, and I too washed and serviced TD-16 and TD-18 Bulldozer Tractors,as well as graders that were used to clear fire base camps, and heli-pads in Vietnam during spring, summer, and fall of 1969.
I did not get the non hodgekins limphoma. However, I did get the Cloracne, diabetes (Mellites II), my hands and feet tingle and are numb quite frequently, as well as havig had to have a couple of malignant tumors removed from my back because of that agent orange that was all over that equipment when they delivered it to us. Not to mention the prostate problems I face.
VA is not recognizing us if we weren't in vietnam.
However, don't lose hope in that for a claim, as I read a precedent where the government gave compensation to two servicemen that were not in vietnam from 1962, and 1963.
I hope this helps, sgt. Lets keep contact, as perhaps we can investigate it together and come up with a solution.
Respectfully, Semper fi. Thanks for serving.
Darryl

- POW/MIA Bracelet -- Maj Douglas Peterson - missing 9-10-66 (James "Mike" Barnes), 10:07:31 11/08/11 Tue
I purchased a bracelet for Maj Douglas Peterson missing 9-10-66 while in the AF at Beale AFB, CA. I later was sent to DaNang AB, RVN fr 26Jul68-1Mar72 and wore the bracelet the whole. Over the years I placed the bracelet in a box with my Vietnam memories. I recently was putting together some information for my daughters school commemorating Veterans Day and found the bracelet. If he returned I would like to send him the bracelet or if there is knowledge of his whereabouts.

- Missing Brother A Disabled Veteran -- Ginny Soller Chambers, 19:19:22 10/20/11 Thu
My Brother Robert(Bob) Soller, a disabled veteran from Old Town,Fl went missing from his home. He lives in a remote rural area. Family, friends have not heard from him since sometime beginning of September 2011 or before. His cloths, car, mortorcycle, were all at home. His wheelchairs, canes still at home. He has a prosthetic leg, he didn't walk away. He has tattoo USMC and Mom on his arms. He is a diabetic and has a very bad heart condition. He takes Medication daily. The Dixie County Sheriff office has added him to missing persons website and put an add in the Gainsville Sun newspaper, but feels that is all they can do, even though now his utilites have been shut off and the last call on his cell phone was made the beginning of September. The family has contacted the Texas Equaseach rescue and search to help us and they say they will, but Dixie County Sheriff Office will not even return family phone calls or respond to The Texas rescue search team. Equasearch needs an okay from the Sheriff Dept. Maybe they are waiting for the only thing to be rescued is bones..We need all of the Vets out there to call the Dixie County Sheriff Dept in Florida and complain...
Thanking you in advance.
Family of Robert Soller USMC (Once a Marine, Always a Marine)

- Helping a Viet Nam woman locate a kind soldier -- Dianne Schwartz, 17:31:15 10/19/11 Wed
It's strange how I met this woman but God works in mysterious ways. Her name is Lily and the soldier she would like to connect with lived near her family in Can Tho and returned to the states in 65 or 66. She was only four-years old at the time so doesn't remember his name but she called him Om. He had two daughters and his wife would send their outgrown clothes so he could give them to her and her sister who was named Thau. He bought Thau a bicycle so she would be able to ride it to school. He also ran, holding Lily in his arms, to the local hospital after being bitten by a spider. I know this is vague but I promised her I would help since she can't speak English very well and it is so important to her to find him and thank him. I hope you can help me help her. My email is: whose_face@yahoo.com Thank you so much!

- POW bracelet -- Mary Postal, 22:10:51 01/22/11 Sat
Tonight I saw an ad on facebook for POW bracelets. I have my bracelet I wore in the early 70's. I wondered if "my POW" made it home. I quickly discovered that Sgt. Michael Lenker did indeed come home. I also discovered Sgt. Lenker was a door gunner on a helicopter shot down by enemy fire. This was the fate of my brother, Sgt. Dave Freeman. My brother perished in the crash. Dave was 24. Sgt. Lenker was 25. He spent 5 years as a POW. This news, although it is 38 year old information, is bittersweet. Of course, I wish my brother had also returned home It pleases me to retire your bracelet, Sgt. Lenker. It does my heart good to know you returned to your loving and supportive family. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Is there anyone else facing this? Any sucessful outcomes? If so, how were they precipitated?

- Soft Tissue Sarcoma ( Osteosarcoma) -- David Williams (Good to be Alive), 10:49:54 07/25/11 Mon
Hello fellow veterans. I am looking for additional evidence to support my Agent Orange claim for Soft Tissue Sarcoma eventually spreading to the bone with a diagnosis of Osteosarcoma or Osteogenic Sarcoma. It is my belief that the soft tissue malignant cancer spread into my phema which then spread into the muscles around the phema. I was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma, but I also have a diagnosis of Osteogenic sarcoma / Osteosarcoma. Is there any one of my fellow veterans that have ran into this problem or a similar problem when filing an Agent Orange claim and winning the claim with the Veterans Administration? Please I need something to support my claim.

- A soldiers complaint against US Army treatment/ -- Jim Ledbetter (Angry), 17:00:50 01/06/11 Thu
This might be a bit long but perhaps it will make me feel better when it is finished.
I went thru basic at Fort Ord,CA, then thru Signal school at Fort Grodan, Ga. Within five months of going in I was on a troop ship going to Okinawa. When I arrived there my company (105th Signat Det.) could not be found. When it was located 2 weeks later I was on a military prop job heading for Thailand. I lived there for a year in a rat infested hut. While there I made PFC. Coming back to the states I went to Fort Benning, Ga. I was there 4 months and was sent to Fort Lewis,Wa. with the 41st Signal Btn. I was with them when they were loaded on a troop ship to QuiNhon, Viet Nam. I was with the Cable Platoon. When the 1st Air Cav went into the An Khe highlands my platoon with in with them. I lived there in my cozy dirt hole for three months and a lot of unpleasant stuff happened. When I went back to QuiHnon I knew something in me had changed.
When my 3 year enlistment was up I was a SP4. After two tours overseas in hell I could make no rank. I was discharged at the Oakland Army base, CA.I got a set of dress greens to wear, but no rank patches, unit patches, awards. etc. My uniform was as slick as the first day I was issued one in the Army.
Currently I am at the VA being treated for PTSD, diabetes and a couple of other things. If my mother had not saved my letters to her telling her about all the fighting that was going on around me I would have received almost no benefits.
The Army had no record of me being in combat records. Thanks Mom for keeping those letters. I finally found out what awards I had received. I applied for them and they were given to me in a big ceremony (Ya right) when the mail man showed up with a brown envelope. I am still trying to get 2 other awards I am entitled to.
I have the feeling that after all I went thru for the service in 3 years that when my time was up they just open the door and said "Get out". Not even a kiss or a cigarette.
All I got on my uniform that day was some spit at the Oakland bus terminal from a war protester.
OK, pity party is over - thanks for listening.
GOD bless our service men and women,

My husband served three tours in Vietnam. His PTSD is escalating, we have two teenagers in the house and they are also trying to understand and maintain. The V.A. is not helpful. The only thing I can think that might get him help is if a bunch of Kick-butt Veterans came to the door and told him face to face we( him, me and the kids)need help. How do I get him to realize that we get it and that he is not weak for getting help? This summer John Cochoran in St.Louis infected him and 1800 veterans with Hep C and some with HIV so his stress level is through the roof. Any ideas?

- Marine Service & rank rewards vs. medals -- Pam Lewis, 16:19:50 08/16/10 Mon
Still working on "proving" my husband's service in a Special Ops Recon unit in 71 thru 73. The unit was in country in Nam, Cambodia, and Laos, as well as South America, etc.
Anyway, instead of getting medals while serving in this unit, the team members were often given promotions (as medals documented/verified events that the powers that be did not want documented/verified).
Anyway, during a conversation with a VA doctor today the doctor reiterated his knowing the marines were the only branch that specifically did this (something Jack has said for years). Jack received this recognition in lieu of medals.
What I need is some other Marines to verify knowing of this practice (as I guess it is not a written reg - if you know of a written reg on this guiding me to it would be awesome). Any of you out there been told this or experienced it? If so can you please contact me off site?
I will need the statement to include a sentence indicating that "this information is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge." The statement needs to be dated and signed and include some type of contact information.
Thanks folks for your help!
