Subject: Marine Service & rank rewards vs. medals

Still working on "proving" my husband's service in a Special Ops Recon unit in 71 thru 73. The unit was in country in Nam, Cambodia, and Laos, as well as South America, etc.

Anyway, instead of getting medals while serving in this unit, the team members were often given promotions (as medals documented/verified events that the powers that be did not want documented/verified).

Anyway, during a conversation with a VA doctor today the doctor reiterated his knowing the marines were the only branch that specifically did this (something Jack has said for years). Jack received this recognition in lieu of medals.

What I need is some other Marines to verify knowing of this practice (as I guess it is not a written reg - if you know of a written reg on this guiding me to it would be awesome). Any of you out there been told this or experienced it? If so can you please contact me off site?

I will need the statement to include a sentence indicating that "this information is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge." The statement needs to be dated and signed and include some type of contact information.

Thanks folks for your help!
