I was sent from 51st FIW to Tan Son Nhut AFB in the summer of 1964. I had the same problem that it did not state I was in Vietnam on my DD214. Look on Section 26 of your DD214 and see if you have 51FIW 1964 printed on there. If it is, you are in luck. It was on mine and I took it to my Air Force recruiter, and asked for his assistance. He sent a letter for me to the department of the Air Force, and I received a letter back stating that, "Item 26 of 214 indicates award of Air Force Expeditionary Medal awarded for service in Vietnam between 1 July 1958- 3 July 1965."

P.S.: I was also in Saigon when a bomb exploded. Fortunately, I was across the street. I hope this information is helpful to you.
