Hi Catmom!

Thanks so much for replying! Yay!! I go back to group therapy on February 10th and I'll share the forum website with the subversives that I know. One nurse dared to ask out loud "does anyone else have doubts about AA"? Heresy!!

The others are maybe smart enough not to complain, just do their time and try to save their licenses. But we can't bitch about our probations or 12 Step programs during group therapy...but we are supposed to talk about our feelings.

I'm not in denial of my substance use disorder. My own reflection is leading me to understand that the roots are in childhood trauma, and I'm working on that, even if I have to do it on my own. I do not have a disease; what I have is long-standing maladaptive coping, perhaps something that is more in line with a personality disorder. I urge any RN reading this to examine the underlying reasons they turned to drugs/alcohol in the first place. Don't sacrifice your scientific minds to AA dogma!! And AA is a very dangerous place for survivors of abuse and/or trauma!!

Thanks so much for being here and this forum,

Sophie :D
