Masquerade Ball
by © Peggy Meeks-King

I enter by the front door
wearing costume and mask in my hand
black raven just outside the blue window pane
forever more
ballroom in Shrewsbury
at my first look inside,it
was as if I had come into a
mythical forest set in a fable, a dream
a lavish place
inhabited by things I had never seen
only in books and such
it seemed
goblins, fairies, mortals and more
at this two star junction
crossroads of my heart
flute playing in the air with Mozart flair
whimsical carnival escapades, long dresses
of silk and satin play with the floor as
purple confetti and rainbow colored
glitter glistens about everywhere
my heart erupts with romantic desire
the soul within me set on fire
the colors of this place black, crimson and white lace, with
golden hearts and silver stars
from the top of the heavens they hang,
both near and far the room so big
I can hardly see to the other side.
but to embark on such a journey as this
I must have unquenchable
imagination and wit and timeless courage
and the unbreakable red heart of a silver tin man
a promise
to see this forbidden sonnet
Shakespeare might say to me
don't you see to be a legend
you must take the wings
of Mercury
from the Milky Way
and dance to the beat of
heartache free
this courtly ball
I wear a disguise
a beautiful face to conceal
from what I hide
deep inside
around my neck
you will find sweet Mother-Of Pearl
in my hair a few curls so lovely to the touch as full breast
giving to
suck,
a heroic quest
chosen by
fate
to be
a princess, I see
a demonic Lord
of darkness to my
right
we dance in
this pretentious show
frolic in costumes and masks
being what one is not
freak of destiny
unparalleled imagery
to behold, to undertake
on this stage
to live out our days as if in a play
what death what decay

Dedication:
anyone who has seen one of these in the movies
and fell in love with the Masquerade Ball
the two i remember are in the Iron mask
and in the bride with sting the last one is my fav one
by far oh and the one in romeo and juliet the movie
with Leonardo in it
