Subject: I Remember Drawing This Lion A Very Long Time Ago

http://www.ncci.net/kingp/lionmeeksking.jpg
my lion art

"The Lion"

It was just one piece of white typing paper,
it was long ago before I became a poet,
it was before I had a purple-blue art box full of paint-brushes
and paint and ink.

One day I got out a number two pencil and like I wrote
before and a piece of plain white typing paper, nothing fancy
like the drawing paper you buy in art stores.

I had just drew a tiger and a few other animals
and I once did a ghost back when I was in art class in
high school, I think I must have been around
seventeen, but this lion was different, you see, it
was not mean,
it was bottled up energy wanting and waiting to be set free
inside of me.

The pencil was in my fingers and in about what seemed
like a few seconds I gave birth to this lion's face,
it was full of somekind of beautiful grace, it was not
as one might think of a lion's face in a wild place.

The Lion's face was just there right before my eyes, it had came from a deep place in
my soul, those eyes, that nose.
