SELECTION




Lined up, each fabric
hangs off a cardboard hip

invoking shades
of Moroccan sand and fire.

I glance down the aisle
and see a harem of souls

wanting to be worn
by a body,

slipped over bones
housing a song
of strong passion.

I pray,
let these skeletal flutes
be mine

and flesh, this cloth
slung around them

dancing through space
in a flare of defiance.

For too long
I have been stored away
wrapped in taut silence

and wondering about
my mother. ---

I think she was Salome.
