SILENT ABUSE

Child cries alone in the night.
Mother has lost another fight.
Father never understands the pain.
Another anger we need to tame.

Child never speaks his heart.
Mother struggles to break apart.
Father battles demons within,
another day, another sin.

Child grows and never knows
about the life he never chose.
Mother longs for years gone by,
for happiness never destined to fly.
Father's heart begins to break,
guilt, he feels, that surfaced to late.

Another broken family in need.
How can we begin to sow the seed?
Another cycle of abuse with no end,
who can we truly call our friend?
Maybe in another time and place,
we'll be given troubles we can face.
But for now our lives must go on,
so keep hoping for every new dawn.
