Shadowed by sandstone blooming
like jagged flowers
against the sky,

she bathes her feet
in saltwater,

her eyes in laughter
spilling from children’s lips.

Smiles glossed in raspberry,
and she thinks how sweetly
they haunt the air,

parted just enough
to draw her close

and make her wonder
about the breath of childhood; --

its voice whirled in sand
and forever seeking
to build new dreams.
